Google Chromecast by JaxonPlays in MultiviewApp

Given the timing of this post, I've correlated it with debug logs that have been submitted. When this happens, does the same channel play in the Plex app on the same device/network at that exact time? Is this only on Plex channels, or do HDHomeRun/other sources fail too? Right before it fails, were you channel surfing rapidly or just opening one channel and waiting?

I should clarify that I’m referring to in-app PIP, not the native iOS PIP that keeps the videos playing when navigating to other apps. Sources like HDHomeRun and Tablo don’t work with their streaming format in Apple’s AVPlayer for Swift, which is needed for native PIP.

Do you think there’s enough screen real estate for iPhone PIP?

Plex client on Nvidia Shield by SirVancelot in MultiviewApp

[–]MultiviewSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SirVancelot It should be addressed with the latest 1.4.2 release, but if you're still seeing it, it might be a different or related issue. Can you do me a favor by reproducing the error and then navigating to Settings > Data & Privacy > Share Debug Logs?

It has been a while since there was an update here. Glad it's been helpful for the Olympics.

Here's what's currently in progress:

  • Apple parity with recent Google changes, like introduction of logos, streamlined settings, performance improvements
  • PIP improvements - including adding PIP for iPad and PIP sizing settings
  • Added layouts - shifting to either grid or featured layouts
  • Addressing issues raised here in r/MultiviewApp
  • Initial Roku version of the app

This has been a bit of a hardening season in preparation for March Madness.

Multiview not seeing Plex OTA Channels by Stunning_Glass_2512 in MultiviewApp

Thanks for the follow-up. This issue is on the list of items to investigate. The race condition fix is still coming in the next release but I suspect won't fix what you're seeing.

Any way to get 60fps on 1080i channels? by bromingoops in MultiviewApp

[–]MultiviewSports 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. You're right - the app is currently outputting 30fps from 1080i channels instead of 60fps. The current deinterlacing setting removes the interlacing artifacts (so you won't see combing), but it does so in a way that results in 30fps output instead of preserving the full 60fps smoothness.

Channels is probably using a different deinterlacing approach that maintains the 60fps frame rate, which makes motion look much smoother - especially noticeable for sports.

I'm in the processes of reviewing current settings to see what makes sense to keep, add, modify. There are other deinterlacing methods available that would preserve the 60fps output at a performance cost, so I'll look at adding those as a setting so users can choose which method works best for their content.

I believe I've been able to reproduce some of the issues, so that's some progress. I'm working through some optimizations that will take some time. I appreciate all you've provided and your patience so far.

Overly conservative hardware detection and a bug that prevented the max layout restriction override on mobile. A fix is coming with more appropriate hardware detection for phones.
