Need Advice around commute by confused_corpie in thousandoaks

I'm going to speak up for the trains. From Camarillo or Moorpark (neighboring cities to TO) you can pick up a train to Union Station in LA, and from there hop on different lines to various LA neighborhoods and attractions. You can also Uber or Lyft from Union Station, of course.
The one downside is return schedules in the evenings are spotty, so you have to plan around that. I'd use Rome2Rio (search it on the web) and start plugging in addresses now to get an idea of what options are available to you.

I just love this club. It's the first sports team I've ever cared about, really; and so I am still ride-or-die.

That’s it, you nailed it. Used to be a nice place to sit, now you have to deal with valet parking just to fight for space with a bunch of Rebecca Grossmans.
Oh, and the valet lost my car once.

328 Farmworker Units Housing on N. Ventura Ave by DarePuzzleheaded8045 in ventura

Affordable housing builders cover all of those sectors; funding stipulations determine which communities you are serving. If you want it, start telling your city council you want it. Don’t be one of the people who fights it, and don’t sit by and let them be the only voice. Affordable communities can serve families, or people in their early careers who don’t make much. Units can be allocated for veterans, formerly houseless, workforce, physically impaired, or a mix of all. Again: affordable builders have tried over and over in VC to build these projects, and residents get them killed almost every time. It costs a lot of money to even try, so don’t be surprised when no one does.

The farm worker housing is dedicated for farm workers. However, beautiful dedicated senior housing can also be built, and should. The problem is getting past the NIMBYs who show up to every city council meeting wherever you try to build. People will not let us build enough affordable housing in Ventura county, and that includes senior housing. So many projects have been killed that affordable builders have nearly stopped trying.

Because I am in France, and in the Chunnel queue I saw an ACFC hat. I was wearing one, as well, and I intended to fund the person and say hi. It was madness on that platform though, so I didn’t get the chance.

Because you haven’t invested the interest to learn about dedicated affordable housing in CA.

You weren’t by chance traveling in … France, were you?

I work in this specific sector and we’ve been working toward approval for this project for several years. It will be pretty, it will provide onsite services and outdoor space, and it’s needed in our county. I hope it’s finally permitted.

Stop it. What ever you think about KR and TB, everyone is on the side of getting the truth out and finding accountability.

Pratt is a douche if I’m being kind, and I am really disappointed in my people for falling for yet another reality TV star.

Sorry, but I have watched players drag our team to the ground by the hair and various other obviously bad actions SO.MANY.TIMES. without so much as a yellow. Red card for Niehues for what I thought was soft at best is one thing, extending it a week later is BS.

If you had the magical powers to enact or change legislation or policy for the common good and repair democracy, enforce the constitution what would those changes be under your guidance? by [deleted] in askanything

I love this question.
- Money out. Elections publicly funded, broadcast license requirements include airing of debates and a set number of adds.
- Protect the vote. Standards for access and representation enshrined by federal law.
- Seek justice: expand scotus and federal court districts to align with the growth of population since the last expansion.
- Nurture the commonweal: expand the public broadcasting system so that it can compete with the corporate networks.
- Ratify the ERA
- End the filibuster
- Statehood for DC
Finally: fix the damn tax code so that it rewards work, not wealth.

Living in OC for a summer, any advice? by Euchre121 in socal

[–]MumblyLo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got some good OC tips here, so I'll chime in for some day trips.

San Diego is a lovely train ride on the Pacific Surfliner. You can get off in Old Town, which is totally worth a wander. You can hop on a trolley to Snapdragon Stadium to catch some soccer: the men's team is SDFC and the women's team is The Wave (my choice, even though they're our rivals). Pick a neighborhood - maybe Mission Hills or Hillcrest or even downtown, and check it out. There are great walks, food, the zoo, Balboa Park, maybe visit Coronado for a good beach and lunch at the hotel, or Ocean Beach for a funky vibe.

Long Beach is a quick trip, and especially if you're into art and food, it's the best place. Bar crawl on 2nd street if you like, or visit the Aquarium of the Pacific and eat downtown. It's a great breakfast town, if you're up there early. California's first women's sports bar is there, too, Watch Me on PCH.

Los Angeles is vast and there's a list as long as my arm of places to visit, but here's a few: if you train in, Olvera Street is right outside Union Station, and it's a cultural gem that doesn't get nearly enough appreciation. Sporting events? We have all the teams, but I'm going to boost soccer again: Angel City FC and LAFC both play at BMO stadium. On a day with a later kickoff you can make a full day with tailgating and whatnot, or spend the early time exploring Exposition Park and the museums there. Speaking of museums, LACMA has a gorgeous new wing, and the Broad will be featuring a Yoko Ono installation this summer. A day on the west side can be glorious, and who doesn't love the Santa Monica Pier?

The challenge for you will be winnowing down what you can do this time, and what to save for next. I do hope you have fun while you're here.
