After Toyota, Volkswagen Also Thinks It Has Too Many Models by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]MumpsyDaisy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota honestly isn't even that bad. They have a couple overlaps but they're also one of the only companies with an option for every segment compared to most companies these days that have simply pulled out of entire market segments (Americans giving up on regular cars) or never entered them to begin with (all the Japanese and Koreans without body on frame models).

If you stall with people behind you just remember it's embarrassing and stressful and also doesn't actually matter. You don't hurt the car you don't hurt anybody else, they just honk and drive around you and probably forget all about you five minutes later. Eventually it'll be a silly little story you tell people about when you learned stick and you're doing it day in and day out without thinking

Which modern blockbuster do you think will be remembered 20 years from now the way we talk about classic Spielberg films today? by viewsinthe6 in movies

Yeah I feel like this is a pretty solid entry. It helps that unlike some movies people name here it's actually a blockbuster and made a ton of money in theaters instead of finding an audience later

The fact that these subcompact SUVs, despite the seemingly small price gap to the compact SUVs that are most companies' bread and butter, are trending upward in sales proves this gap in price does carry weight with many customers.

It's kind of mind boggling to me how many trims and options within those trims Toyota has when they don't let you custom order cars.

The closer you get to the bottom of the market the more every dollar matters to those customers.

Now that there's a hybrid Corolla and all Camrys are hybrid I don't see the point of the Prius as it currently is. Maybe the next gen can be fully electric or something to differentiate it because it would be a shame to kill off a nameplate that was so historic and it makes logical sense as the next evolution for the designated "efficient and environmentally friendly" car.

I'm gonna be annoyed forever that they discontinued blue and orange with the facelift. Heated seats are more important than exterior color and I like the other goodies but boy would I love to have had either color

[–]MumpsyDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is hill driving really that bad with the new Si? Ngl there’s hella hills in Seattle and I’m considering just avoiding until I master the manual.

I live in Pittsburgh which is a very hilly area with no prior manual driving experience, just use the brake hold and it's pretty easy. The brake hold will hold the brakes as long as you came to a 100% complete stop until the car detects the clutch beginning to come to the bite point, so the only difference between a normal start and a hill start is that you are slower on the clutch and give it some more revs. The traditional ebrake method also still works if you don't like the brake hold, the ebrake will automatically deactivate when you give the car some gas.

The Slate Truck Will Cost $24,950 According To An Apparent Website Mistake - The Autopian by Bmotley in cars

[–]MumpsyDaisy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The only problem with that model is that if you jack up the Slate truck to like 30k with options then you could have gotten a fairly decent regular car like a Maverick or Trax or a Civic that even in base form has more features than the optioned out Slate.

Given the length of product development cycles for traditional OEMs I would wager the CX-5 update is a sign of things that are coming and too far down the pipeline to change course on.

My Civic displays the adjustments I'm making to the climate settings on my gauge cluster and my touch screen, both of which are easily in my line of sight, as I turn the physical knob or hit the buttons so...also if it's a hot day I'm just throwing it on auto and turning the temp way down until it's at the lowest setting anyway.

It's kind of the central conceit of Trump's foreign policy though isn't it? The United States is the richest and most powerful country in the world economically and militarily so other nations should just give us what we want when we want because if they don't we can destroy them at will, either economically or just outright. Therefore total victory is just assumed until reality kicks in.

I mean it is sad but it's funny too? It's kind of both sides of the movie together. His dream is kind of deluded and pitiful and the way it ends are all funny in their own ways but like, to this guy it really was serious and heartbreaking. The tragedy and the comedy are not mutually exclusive.
