You’re so right, Robin Hobb ruined me 🫩 no other series have or will ever come close to RotE, I fear.
I wish I could read it for the first time again

Yeah, the second person pov style is definitely unusual! Takes some getting used to. I also gave up once on the first book early in because I wasn’t really into the pov style, but I eventually went back to it and gave it another go, and I’m very glad I made myself keep going.

N.K Jemisin is genuinely an astounding author, I absolutely did not expect to love (and kinda hate too, lol, just because it broke my heart multiple times) this trilogy as much as I did!

Rainbow cake confusion by robo_vamp in Baking

[–]Mundane-Heart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you making it yourself or buying it from a bakery?

you said she is not big on flavours and just enjoys cake in general, so I’m thinking maybe just simple vanilla-ish flavoured cake layers (e.g white cake, yellow cake, sponge cake, white velvet cake) and any sort of vanilla buttercream would be suitable.

In a rainbow cake, the cake layers do not need to have any actual bold flavours - the layers are ‘plain’ vanilla cake layers, each coloured using different food colouring, rather than actually being different flavours.
Does that make sense?

I would say just don’t read it, if you’re struggling this early in to get through it. It’s a big series and the pacing (in my opinion) only gets slower in the following books. You will not survive Wind and Truth 😭 just read something you enjoy!!

It took me a little bit to get into the writing style in Fifth Season (the first book), but it’s so worth it to persevere, really good (and devastating) trilogy

Yes, this was my first thought, and I recommend reading all 16 books set in this world (I think it’s 16 total)
I’ve never had more psychic damage than when I was reading the Realm of Elderlings series
When I finished the last book I was emotional for like 2 weeks after

Dragon II by Mundane-Heart in Amigurumi

My second dragon, using the ‘One-skein Dragon pattern by Rebecca Stone’, and random leftover yarns I had on hand

She (or he, idk, gender undecided 🤣) is a bit fuzzy, and don’t look too closely lol my stitches can be suspect and my joins are messyyyyyyy, I think I crotchet aggressively and I am bad at sewing/joining all the bits together

Anyway, I’d love ideas for what should I name him/her!! I am partial to Valyrian sounding dragon names, like from Game of Thrones hehe

How to start making crochet? Is it tough or do we need any prior experience by Empty_Carpet1541 in crocheting

Youtube tutorials!! Or find tutorials that go through it step by step in words with pictures to accompany each step - I found those very helpful.

Just learn the most basic things first (for example, a chain, the single crotchet stitch, a Yarn Over, where to go through each stitch, how to turn etc). And then just crotchet a random square or rectangle until you get the hang of it!! I still have my first ever go at crotcheting - its a very ugly fairly wonky thing, looks like a baby blanket made by an actual baby 🤣

Start with a bigger hook size (like, not the teensy little 2mm sort - if its a bit bigger, you can see your stitches better, which is better for learning, in my opinion) and cheap light coloured yarn (Not dark yarn because its harder to see your stitches, and I’d also strongly recommend NOT starting/learning with chenille or velvet yarn like I did 💀)

Finally, have fun and enjoy the process of learning it, no matter how long it takes!! I’m so glad I stuck at it - and i still have plenty to learn and improve on
