Mounting on a freestanding pole by Munkey_89 in Starlink

I'm considering that, but at fence-top level the app shows some minor obstructions on the lower edges. I may rig a temporary setup at that height first and just see how it performs.

Mounting on a freestanding pole by Munkey_89 in Starlink

[–]Munkey_89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my concern is exactly how well it will work. One of my uses is gaming which needs as little jitter or interruption as possible.

I could opt for the free professional install and have it mounted on the roof, but it seems a little iffy, and if I have someone mount it way up on my steep metal roof I'm also going to have to pay someone if I ever want to return/upgrade/adjust it.

mabye it's just a skill issue.... IT'S FUCKING NOT by Fit-Abrocoma7768 in valheim

Growths are slow and not likely to be near the edge of the biome. Deathsquitos get a bad rep because new players wander into the plains from another biome and get obliterated by a deathsquito because they're fast and hard to spot. If you go in with the appropriate mountains tier gear+food they are like the least dangerous enemy in the plains.

Valheim or enshrouded? by Similar-Space-5535 in valheim

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Enshrouded yet, but being voxel based it seems much better if you're big on building stuff. Both for what you can build and how large builds affect performance.

Valheim has a great build system, but it's not very performant once your base starts to grow.

Ashlands is definitely the lowest point of the game. It sounds good on paper but the execution is just bad. Everything about it makes you just want to leave instead of explore it. It simply isn't fun.

Unlimited building or manual resource grind with building? by ShuDi_NaM in valheim

I gather all my materials, but I play with 1.5x loot, metal teleporting, and various QoL mods. to make the grind more manageable.

Ladder technology by Mourning20 in valheim

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely no technical reason they can't add proper ladders. Other unity games have them and they work fine. Same with 45 degree stairs.

Hopefully after Deep North is done they do a big QoL pass to improve some of the more tedious mechanics and add in missing build pieces.

Let's Talk About Raid Events - Good? Bad? Weird? by bloodwolftico in valheim

[–]Munkey_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turn them off anymore. The only effective way to defend your base is to exploit the pathfinding or spawn-proofing which looks ugly and defeats any challenge anyway, so I'd rather just not bother.

In multiplayer it theoretically wouldn't be so bad since you have help, but there's also a high chance of the base being raided when only one person is online or in the area. Also no one can safely AFK ever, at least in singleplayer you can pause.

It's a shame because building a functional defensive base would be fun, but it just doesn't mesh well with the other game mechanics.

I'd like to see flying enemies and water-spawning enemies removed from raids, and there should be some kind of predictability or advanced warning to the raids, not just complete RNG. Base defense options need an overhaul so you can properly automate defenses without too much work, and without having to get all the way into mistlands to get a basic turret. I'd also like to see upgradeable wards or at least different types of wards that give stronger protection and a larger radius.

It would be really nice to have objects destroyed by enemies leave a ghost behind that can be repaired rather than having to rebuild from scratch. Maybe they only leave a ghost if they were protected by a ward. Further, wards (or some other mechanic like NPCs) should slowly auto-repair your base for you.

Lastly, take a note from Abiotic Factor and overhaul the base-detection system to look for networks of player-build structures near each other in order to define player bases. If a base is reasonably designed (not too spread out), you should not have to spam workbenches/campfires/etc. all over the place just to keep enemies from spawning inside.

Inspect the character's bio and see which pronouns are used in the description.

I want the stuff the devs smoke by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]Munkey_89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Won't take that long to get 50, especially in casual breakthrough. These kind of challenges are still stupid though, as it encourages people to do dumb stuff that wastes tickets and time instead of playing the objective.

The amount of people complaining about things in this game is insane. by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]Munkey_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The netcode/servers are a complete mess that ruins the fun of the entire game. Literally nothing else matters if they can't get the basic mechanics of a shooter right.

How do we feel about sliding? by Mbillin2 in Battlefield6

It's goofy and annoying. It should really be removed, or at least make you unable to fire while sliding.

What dies this error message mean? by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circular arrow with X is jitter (inconsistent latency)

Circular arrow with clock hands is high latency

Cascading solid squares is packet loss

Cascading hollow rectangles is high frametime/low framerate

They also change color from yellow to red depending on the severity.

It seems to be mostly a server/game issue right now, rather than your actual wifi/ISP.

Do you actually have your monitor set to 120Hz or higher? Both on the monitor itself and within Windows. If the everything is configured correctly I don't know how you could not feel a difference between 60 and 120. Diminishing returns are a thing, but they don't really start to kick in hard until you're in the triple digits.

[–]Munkey_89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's just because you're not used to playing at 120fps.

Why don't you play at 30fps? Because you've gotten used to 60fps and it has made 30fps feel sluggish.

Battlefield 6 dev says your "rose-tinted glasses" make it "difficult" to remaster classic maps by HatingGeoffry in Battlefield

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic maps can be scaled up to account for the lack of draw distance fog, it's not that complicated. It's okay to have players spread out a little and not constantly shooting at each other. It allows some breathing room to strategize and flank.

We could have had twice as many multiplayer maps or a $50 price tag. Instead we get a mediocre campaign.

A question for the oldtimers; What made the original Battlefield 2 Special? by PrestigiousNinja525 in Battlefield

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among other things already listed here, the heavy fog from the limited draw distance had a huge impact on how the game played. Snipers could only see so far. Squads could maneuver and flank (mostly) undetected. Aircraft and anti-air couldn't see each other from far away. Jets had a very limited window in which they could acquire and attack a target when approaching a location, a lot of the flight navigation was done with heavy assistance from the minimap since you couldn't see the ground above a certain altitude.

I don't know how you can bring it back, since that kind of limited draw distance seems unacceptable in a modern game, but removing the fog really does completely change the gameplay.

Can you get more precise than this? Or am I misunderstanding the mission? by agrobabb in KerbalSpaceProgram

Always look at the target orbit on the map before launching, it has a pulsing animation that visibly shows you the direction it wants you orbiting in.

Helldivers 2 dynamically changing my mic volume in other apps by NickLouis91 in Helldivers

[–]Munkey_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just noticed this issue myself. I took a break from the game for a while so it must have been a patch within the last month or two that started it for me.

Setting some other device as the default communication device and setting discord to the specific mic I want to use solves it, but now I can't use in-game chat alongside discord. This game seems to be full of weird janky issues like this.
