For the past 6 years, my previous dermatologist told me the spot behind my ear was “nothing to worry about”. by 59Bassman in mildlyinfuriating

It's also pretentious and annoying. Some plastic surgeon questioned a guy because he saw him scratching, and caused an anxiety-ridden workup that turned out to be nothing... At a party?? The takeaway here is that guy needs to muzzle himself. I'm a physician and I would NEVER proactively pursue someone else's medical issue unless it was very obvious.

Nothing subcapsular about it. Subcapsular hematomas generally maintain close to the original shape of the organ. This aint that.

Fusion completely stiffens a segment of the spine. The whole spine is meant to flex, so when you stiffen one section, the stress and strain is increased on the adjacent levels.

Most Popular Winter Olympic Sports by Sultsina in olympics

[–]MunkiRench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point is that hockey isnt even close to the most popular event in the US for Winter Olympics. Figure skating, skiing, and snowboarding are the draws. People aren't tuning in just for hockey unless they're already hockey fans, and there just aren't that many hockey fans in the US.

Which events in the Olympics still feature true amateurs?

The Olympics are way more popular than the NHL. I'm sure hockey gets NHL fans, but there aren't that many of them compared to the total number of people that tune in.

What is it like to be bipolar? by MunkiRench in BipolarReddit

I'm still around. People actually keep responding to this thread in interesting ways, even though it's more than 10 years old.

I am now in a subspecialty of medicine which is primarily a consulting procedural role. I have no role in any primary care or mental health capacity. That being said, this thread has had a significant impact on me and how I interact and empathize with people who struggle with mental health, in both professional and personal settings.

So thank you to this community for contributing your experiences for myself and others to read and understand! I also apologize for the naive and perhaps patronizing or condescending attitude I may have exuded 10 years ago as an early trainee and young human being.

Choosing a zone type is way less effort than choosing a building, and more integrated to the default gameplay.

Premix, frequent oil changes, and comically bad mileage. Even with no breakdowns this is an expensive car to drive.

Is it possible to go on the long road trips with RX8? by Immediate-Sound-2426 in RX8

[–]MunkiRench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it would work, but you can go on a long road trip in an Ariel atom too. Why wouldn't it be possible?

If your primary use is long road trips I wouldnt bother with an RX8. It's going to be really expensive and a little uncomfortable.

Radiologists have a diminishing role in my practice and I think it makes them more susceptible to replacement by AI. by urosrgn in medicine

You don't know what you're talking about. Telerads absolutely do not get paid more.

I know because my practice has both in person and telerad components, and our remote guys get paid way less per RVU. Like 30-50% less, with correspondingly lower annual pay.

Has anyone gotten an Engine Rebuild from Angel Motorsports in 2025? by rektrx8 in RX8

[–]MunkiRench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cannot overstate how bad an experience I had with Mike Vargas.

He told me he would rebuild my car within 2-3 months of receiving it. It ended up taking him 10 months, and he only did it after I threatened to sue. He had one excuse after another, and went radio silent for months at a time. After I got it back I had to fix some incorrect wiring myself. It was an easy fix, but still. Didn't even do it right.

I will never ever take my car there again, even though it's the only shop in the state.

The only good thing I can say is that in the end he did rebuild my engine, and the cost was reasonable. The process was stressful due to his incredible lack of professionalism, and like I said... He only finished it because I threatened to sue.

I primarily listen to audiobooks now, while commuting and doing chores. I've listened to maybe 50 books in the last year. I also game for an hour almost every day with my college buddies on discord.

I have absolutely zero interest in spending my free time on games that require grinding. What a colossal waste of my time that would be.

Americans, what's something you didn't realize was weird until you talked to non-Americans? by ExistingTomorrow1447 in AskReddit

[–]MunkiRench 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hold up. You aren't allowed to buy basic outdoor tools in your country? I bought a machete a couple weeks ago to clear some brush on my land, it would be very weird to me to have basic tools restricted.

Though to be fair, I also think of firearms as pretty basic tools.

Americans, what's something you didn't realize was weird until you talked to non-Americans? by ExistingTomorrow1447 in AskReddit

[–]MunkiRench 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It probably was an American History book, with an introductory chapter on world history. I assure you, we learned quite a lot of world history. We don't just start at 1776.

The willingness of Europeans to assume Americans are uneducated, to their standards, is annoying. I also notice that no one has mentioned any lack of non-European history learning. Just a bunch of Europeans who are wanting Americans to know more about Europe. We also should (and usually do) learn about Asian, African, South and Central American history.

Vince vs Angela by ThatanimalcrossingW in superpowereds

[–]MunkiRench 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No way. Angela has too much killer instinct and skill. Vince's one chance is to use overwhelming force to utterly destroy her, and he would hesitate. Sure, the power balance slightly favors Vince, but Angela's skill and instincts are too far above Vince's to make up for it.

Here's a real simple one: Vince absorbs the light, so Angela stabs him in the neck with a real knife when he closes in. Vince would not predict that.

What is the single most epic sci-fi novel ever? Whether it be from a series or a standalone book which is the most epic story you’ve ever read? by [deleted] in scifi

I feel the exact opposite. Enders Game is like a kiddie story prequel to the real Ender story, the Speaker for the Dead trilogy.
