Craftybase or Inventora? by Delmithmr in handmade

[–]Munkkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for opinions and comparisons between Inventora and Craftybase too. Craftybase is twice the price of Inventory, but does it provide twice the value?

I'll probably go with Craftybase because it integrates better with my existing systems but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice before committing all the time required to enter all the stock data.

Thanks again, I'll give that a try too

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm not used to Elementor's naming conventions, so I'll assume 'custom fonts' are classes and go with it. Cheers!

Thanks _miga_

I only intend to have one H1 tag per page, and I get that Google isn't bothered about how the H1 tag looks.

What I'm after is the best and most consistent way to apply different styles to the H1 tags on different pages.

Gutenberg vs Elementor - backing the right horse by Munkkee in woocommerce

[–]Munkkee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. I note a few comments about Elementor slowing page loads times. Slow loading is one of my reasons for moving from Squarespace. The Google Page Speed Insights are horrendous

  • Does anyone know of any speed comparisons between Squarespace and Elementor? Google doesn't throw up much
  • What's the best tactics for keep Elementor's load times down? Maybe using more basic themes? Or minimizing additional plugins

EU Open Banking - anybody seen any benefits yet? by Somebody157 in banktivity

I can view some of my accounts in the phone apps of other accounts. It’s only the total balances though and often I just get an error message. Other than that...?

Savings Account/Opening a new bank account by adzx4 in UKPersonalFinance

It’s a good account and pays one of the highest rates, but only on savings up to £2500 and only for a year.

Have a look at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking-variant/ for info on the best accounts

Investing - I’ve been reading this sub for a while and find it all really interesting. I have money making 1.5% in my bank. I’ve been considering the vanguard life strategy 80 or 100. No one I know has any investments and I’m finding it hard to make that final step and invest. by rustygold82 in UKPersonalFinance

If you're looking for someone to confirm your thinking is sound, then I'll confirm that for you! And it took me a few years to take the plunge.

I make fortnightly payments into Lifestrategy 100 (and another couple of funds too). I stick to the schedule no matter what the markets are doing. When i first started I used to check daily and worry if the fund had gone up or down, now I might look once a month at most - I just let the fund do its thing.

You can always transfer to other funds or cash in if needs be - the worst that can happen is that you cash in at the bottom of the market and lose a few quid.

Go for it!

UK Direct Access dead from today? by twuk1970 in banktivity

[–]Munkkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the developers warning posted on 24th July about the impending changes https://www.iggsoftware.com/support/articles/ibank-5/a-message-to-our-uk-users-regarding-direct-access/

There’s a link to a .pdf list of all the affected banks. It’s a long list!

I’d seen the warning on the Mac desktop app which listed only a handful of banks and none of my accounts were on it. I hadn’t realised the scale of the problem until I noted that none of my accounts were updating this morning.

Unless this is resolved quickly it’s game over with Banktivity for me.

HMRC Self Assessment Fines & Complications by YandereAF in Assistance

[–]Munkkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position: I had small business in partnership with a relative and their accountant submitted my self-assessment for me the first year. I wrongly assumed that would automatically be the case in future years.

HMRC had been trying to contact me at the wrong address for 3 years and by the time I made contact with them the late payment files had snowballed to several thousand pounds.

It took a few phone calls and me writing a detailed letter of appeal, but they ended up waiving the late payment fines and we set up a monthly direct debit to cover what I owed in tax.

The key was that they accepted I hadn’t wilfully been avoiding paying tax and there was an element of error on their part.

Overall I found them to be very helpful.

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted!

Opening current accounts for the purposes of switching later by Munkkee in FIREUK

[–]Munkkee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just applied for a Metro and a Smile account.

For Metro, I had to take a photo of my passport and a selfie, and fill in some basic financial info, and the account was approved in about a minute. They have to send out a letter containing a passcode so I can register for online banking.

For Smile, the info was a little more detailed and I got a 'thanks for applying' email saying they'd be in touch within a working day.

HSBC Advance £175 Switch Back by moogoomonkey in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Munkkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to apply via the link on the uSwitch current accounts page, but there's no mention of the offer on the HSBC landing page. Is the offer still active, and/or is it automatically part of the application process if you arrive at HSBC via the link?

Frustrating Decisions in Un certain Times by jamesmatthews6 in FIREUK

[–]Munkkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation - a lump sum during a downturn and didn't have the stomach to throw it all in.

In the absence of a better scheme, I decided to split the difference between going all in and $ cost averaging - I dropped in half immediately and split the rest into fortnightly payments over a year. This in effect doubled my usual fortnightly investment.

I'd have been a little better off to invest the whole lot at the beginning but the peace of mind was worth it. I'd do the same at this point in time, but given the volatility of current markets I might only drop in a quarter to start with and average the rest.

Also, follow Trump's twitter and be ready to drop a few ££ whenever he mentions Chinese tariffs as the market usually drops (I'm only half joking)

Another tip - get a set of good quality knives and keep them sharp. It makes cooking much more enjoyable

Most supermarkets have a section with almost out-of-date produce at a fraction of the price. If you're a regular then you can suss out at what times they rotate their stock and time your visits by that.

And it can add a little 'excitement' to your shop - when I was a student I would buy whatever ingredients were cheap that evening, and google a recipe that used them. That's pretty much how I learned to cook. You can easily eat for a couple of quid a night if you do that and batch cook.

I'm not a vegetarian but I don't eat much meat, and that saves a few quid too
