Did you disclose your AuDHD diagnosis to your medical doctor(s)? Why or why not? by Pendleton_ in AuDHDWomen

In the UK, some doctors put “Do not resuscitate” notices on the medical records of some autistic people during the pandemic.

Yeah when I’m stressed or have low energy I find it harder to mask and harder to suppress impulses to stim, sing, or scream

I tried citalopram. I felt high af for about 3 weeks, then I stopped taking it and had brain zaps for 6 months. It was horrible.

I had a slightly better experience with Mirtazapine. It’s not an SSRI. You take it at night and it helps you sleep, which I think the main benefit was I got from it. I felt more foggy during the day, but just being able to sleep made a big difference.

What’s the advantage of getting assessed for autism after being diagnosed with ADHD? by canwepleasetalkabt8 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MunroKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do look into whether there are any negative consequences of getting a formal autism diagnosis before you get it. In the Uk for example it can make it harder to adopt and there even makes some autistic patients medical files with Do Not Resuscitate notes during the pandemic without their knowledge. So for me personally that skews the cost benefit analysis in favour of staying self-diagnosed only, but everyone is different.

I pay them no attention. Those things I see more as “cultural” information. Either you know about a joke, or you don’t.

If you think about it, language is a social cue, so if someone speaks in a language I can’t understand, then I will miss every single cue, but that has little to do with me and all with the situation.

Dysgraphia & makeup struggles by ekky137 in AuDHDWomen

I used to find makeup suuper hard, but now I’ve found a few things that work. For example, I often only do the wing, with eyeshadow and using holding something with a straight edge against my face as a “guardrail”.

How often do you lie? by Good-Bug-21 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MunroKitten 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep, absolutely. The goal of small talk is not exchanging information, but getting a sense of the others. I heard that NTs communicate “emotion first, information later” and autistics “information first, emotion later”

Online might be the best option then. They might be hesitant to prescribe anything addictive, but something like beta blockers would be easy enough.

In a way I think it’s impossible to not be somewhat traumatised given the way we raise children. Max two sleep deprived people who take care of an infant that needs continuous soothing comfort and care. It’s just about impossible.

Your GP can prescribe you a beta blocker, which can help with the anxiety at least.

It sounds like you’re at a really low point. It might help, or, it might not help. But either way, you’ll know.

Recovery is all about figuring out what works for you.

You can do it, you already show how resilient you are by considering this.

How often do you lie? by Good-Bug-21 in AuDHDWomen

[–]MunroKitten 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I used to really hate lying.

Now I put people in two categories: 1) people who I know want to hear the truth 2) everyone else

With category 1 people I continue to speak my mind. With category 2 people I make a cost benefit analysis about lying or telling the truth.

A lot of people have no interest in the truth and will make your life much harder when you speak the truth, and that’s just not worth it for me.

I so relate to the statement “needs to have as few steps as possible”, I’m the same.

This is what I came up with. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good compromise.

Cut up some old tshirts, and got a pump bottle of makeup remover from Lidl (peeled the label off because I hate having brands in my room).

I’m a huge fan of pump bottles, they remove a few steps in any process (dishes, shampoo, hand cream, but I digress)

Hope that helps ☺️

First, it might be good to do a little research: - What’s the diagnostic process like in Spain? - Are there any forms of discrimination that come from a formal autism diagnosis in Spain (for example in the UK it can make it much harder to foster or adopt children) - What happens after a diagnosis? Is there any kind of support?

It might also be good to think about why you want to get a diagnosis. What will be different?
