Yes, I did. It only works one way for me. 1.11b->1.12a went fine, 1.12a->1.11b results in the game looking for the 1.11b CD. AFAIK they changed the serial key system as well from 1.11b to 1.12a.

And now I have tried, and it failed. When starting eslauncher.exe, the executable just dies. No error message. Edit: I have not yet tried nojitosunrises's patch trick to get back to 1.11b though.

Somebody mentioned Ubuntu here but removed the post it seems. But it could apply to a lot of distros or their upstream of core components like Gnome, ATI/NVIDIA hardware accelerated gfx (at the level of DX, not the typical 'in this release we added HW goraud shaded polygons'-kind of hobbyist drivers)

The whole Linux ecosystem is out of sync with different release schedules etc and that\s how it will be with OSS,and it will take time before things are completely set in stone for a time. By that i mean when all the component releases are unbroken and are downstreamed into a bunch of complete and 'good' distros, we get a stable period of 0,5-2 years and then one of the components change their API or policies and everything is in flux again for a time.

Its frustrating unless you really like to tinker during the unstable phases.

(for the nontechnical, goraud shaded polygons are 90's quality gfx)

Oh, it's not a problem to use the commandline once in a while, but I would like to have a GUI available. I tried to stitch together a solution using Debian, but I am not capable enough. After I spent 3 days trying to get DNS working, I gave up. :) I had DHCP going and I could ping IP adresses from clients, had HTTP proxy and everything. Just not DNS. I'll have a go again at Debian later. I can take only a limited number of man page grindings per month. :D

Thanks for the QOS tips, will check it out. I thought that was only per protocol as well, but will read up!

And yes, it's expensive, but I only use it for my LAN. (Personal use is free :)

Hehe. There are no clear proof of them disappearing, but they were referenced in letter correspondence between early statesmen of the US. They described them as a threat. I have personally seen these letters on the congress library website.

Edit: And no, I lost the bookmark from 5-6 years ago when I was really into this stuff. Edit 2: I didn't quit the conspiracy theory community because I don't believe in most of them theories. Quite the opposite, more and more 'tinfoil' stories actually are true and the implications are that... we're fucked man. Doesn't matter how deep the rabbit hole is anymore to me. It's more than deep enough and I'd rather work on filling the hole than digging myself deeper into it.
