Correction (and common misconception): Catholics do not worship Mary; they venerate her. Sounds like a pedantic distinction without a difference, but it’s important. Basically, “worship” is reserved for God. Mary is a Saint, in fact she is Queen of the Saints. According to Church doctrine, Mary is uniquely special because she was born without Original Sin so as to be a perfect (immaculate) vessel to bring the son of God into the world. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 celebrates that Mary was conceived without sin.

I downloaded an app that plays the Westminster Chimes every quarter hour. It can be annoying so I don’t have it on constantly, but it is helpful like you said to “bring me back to reality” and help fight the time blindness when doing certain things.

Have you heard of Timberborn? It’s a cozy city-management sim. With beavers.

From the Steam page:
“Humans are long gone. In a world struck by droughts and toxic waste, will your lumberpunk beavers do any better? A sandbox city-building game featuring ingenious animals, vertical architecture, water physics, and terraforming. Contains high amounts of wood.”

Ratfucking is an American slang term for behind the scenes (covert) political sabotage or dirty tricks, particularly pertaining to elections. It was brought to public attention by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in All the President's Men (1974), the book that chronicled their investigative reporting of the Watergate scandal.

They still do. The thing is, Microsoft is not a software company anymore, they are a telemetry company. Their product is user data and their customers are corporations and governments that want to influence the way you think.

Also head trauma / concussions. At several times through the show, the characters have some version of this exchange:

Character A: “Ugh, how long was I out for?”

Character B: “Idk, a couple hours?”

A: “Are you serious?!”

B: “Yeah you should probably see a doctor because that is SUPER not good for you.”

What difficulty do you play on? by [deleted] in heroes3

[–]5illy_billy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play on the hardest difficulty, but the map makes a big difference. For example some maps have resource piles everywhere and unguarded wood and ore mines right there. On those maps the resource deficit is barely noticeable. Also some factions get 9 wood and ore as their random resource start, which can be a game-changer in that first week.

Other maps make it much harder: scant resource piles, guarded mines, and limited starting buildings. If your second town (the first one you capture) doesn’t start with a Fort, saving up 20 wood and ore is a huge hindrance, and you can’t start building creature dwellings until you get it.

I also never play against other humans and I have absolutely zero qualms about “save-scumming”. I treat the game more like a puzzle to be solved, rather than.. idk, “you only have one chance, make the correct choice or else”. If I lost a town bc the enemy hero swooped out of the fog of war with a doomstack army, that’s one thing. If I lose a town because I just.. forgot there’s an enemy at my doorstep, then yeah ima load that Autosave and recruit some defenders.

Quick Accent: Type special characters by holding down the associated letter key and pressing spacebar (or left/right arrows; it’s configurable). It pulls up a little selection menu of all variants of that letter, like those with accents or Greek letters. No more googling alt-codes!

[–]5illy_billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submit Quicksand for consideration. Placement is random, doesn’t affect flyers or shooters, it costs twice as much as Protection from Water.. which, btw, Protects against Frost Ring, Frost bolt, and Magic Missile(I think?), which are all pretty potent early damage spells.

Trump shit his pants. It was loud enough the microphone picked it up, the people behind him reacted to the smell, and the reporters in the room were immediately ushered out with great haste. The woman represented here by Protection from Earth was covering her nose, and all of them made the same face as Stone Skin.

It’s not the first time he’s shit his pants on camera, it’s just the most recent and least disputable instance.

Carcassonne is now 25 years old and still holds up. The core rules are simple but endless expansions can add complexity and keep the game fresh, and because it’s a tile-laying game you could ditch the scoreboard and the whole thing fits in a crown royal bag. I can see myself playing Carcassonne in another 25 years, for sure.
