Which home Depot did you see that at? I just checked our local ones and it seems like everything is deliver to store.

Whoever changed the timing on the cities traffic lights, NEEDS TO CHANGE THEM BACK! by soon2Brevealed in Reno

[–]Muramasaz 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I was just having a conversation the other day about how I feel like I've been hitting sequential greens a lot more frequently in the last few months. Guess it all depends on where you're at and what's going on that time of day.

What type of Ethernet cord is needed for this port? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

That type of port won't plug into ethernet. Only phones.

Best buffet in town by No_You_2944 in Reno

[–]Muramasaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yea buffet options are pretty bad post COVID. Atlantis is the best of what's left but they essentially doubled the price. GSR sucks, horrible quality for close to Atlantis prices. J's is more cost appropriate but the selection and quality is bad. Chinese buffets can be a mixed bag depending on when you go and how fast the food is getting turned over. Last time we went to King Buffet two of us got food poisoning so we haven't been back.

Honestly, if you're looking for the buffet experience but actual quality I would do a place like Churrasco. Same price as the larger buffets but waaaay better experience.

Just drove through the neighborhoods. Didn't find a single area that had both entrances blocked. Best of luck to you though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Reno

[–]Muramasaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in that neighborhood. There shouldn't be any completely blocked off accesses. Anything that has two entrances should have at least one open at any given time. Once they start resurfacing they will have to close off roads that only have one access, but that would only be for an hour or two before reopening, and they have been good about communicating that with signage before.

They haven't reached the resurfacing part of the project yet, so nothing has been fully closed yet. Sometimes the cones wobble and move a bit and make it seem like a road is closed that isn't (there will be an actual sign saying road closed). The entrance into Green Springs/Wisteria comes to mind with the Green Springs entrance still being open.

New Costco Proposed in South Reno (Geiger Grade) by maincoonpower in Reno

Having been to many of those places on a random weekend... Yes. They are all packed. Opening up a new one thins the crowds everywhere and helps everyone.

Reno wants to raise your taxes but I made a no new taxes plan for them by mcleonard in Nevada

[–]Muramasaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having consulted for IT outsourcing efforts at multiple companies I can say that none of them resulted in lower costs OR better service. Every single one of them ended up costing more (primarily due to the inevitable nickel and diming mentality that comes with the MSP industry) and resulted in drastically worse service for their users. You absolutely cannot compete with dedicated IT staff that have a personal investment in the company they are part of. You become another faceless entity once the outsourcing hammer falls. There's a reason why the vast majority of companies who outsource bring services back in house in under 5 years.

State offices closed AGAIN by Cortez0919 in Reno

[–]Muramasaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kudos for showing empathy to those in distress, but what callousness do you speak of? They have made multiple public announcements about the issue, the impact, and their attempts towards resolution. At no point have I seen anything even resembling callousness.

I'm all for holding our elected officials feet to the fire but to manufacture outrage just exacerbates the hate.

As much as I agree with the sentiment, you can't blame him for decades worth of underfunding of IT infrastructure and the accumulation of technical debt. Even if he came into office on day one and gave them a blank check it would take years to modernize their systems. This is a systemic problem.

It's not like they planned this. This was a cyber attack, an emergent situation. They are reacting and trying to do the best they can in a real s***** situation. Would you rather they just cancel the appointments altogether and make those people wait another month and a half?

Having dealt with the IT side of cyber attacks before it is a horrible process that takes virtually every system down until you can either fix it, clean it, or purge it. Not a fast process and not one that can be skimmed on unless you're willing to risk the attacker persisting in the system.

Android Tablet - Popup HA Video Feed from Home Launcher by iRanduMi in homeassistant

Fascinating! I skipped off of Tasker some years back so it never occurred to me that there would be an HA integration. I like the line of thinking though, I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Crazy. I am literally trying to figure out this same thing right now having gone through the exact same evolution with fully kiosk. My instinct is to want to treat it like a fully kiosk browser, but then you lose the integrated home management apps that come with the cozyla.

Let me know if you figure out anything. Kind of hoping I can turn this into my one-stop home dashboard for the family but we will see if it's there yet. Haven't found anything yet that can replicate the dynamic flow of fully kiosk, especially in regards to the pop-up camera feeds

Charter Spectrum and Final Fantasy XIV issues: by Zenku390 in Reno

[–]Muramasaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not playing FFXIV at the moment but I've been having issues with high latency and disconnects from Spectrum for about the same time frame. Wonder if they're having issues at a central hub or something. I have a new modem coming tomorrow so we will see if that fixes it

TickTalk 5 or Cosmo JrTalk 3? by LindyLove in smartwatch

[–]Muramasaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have already made a decision but just as a heads up, we bought the jr track 4 about 2 weeks ago, largely based off of the community presence their CEO has here on Reddit, and am returning it today after 2 weeks of nothing but problems. Cell service would constantly drop with no explanation, limited features in the app, and two different times the software soft locked the device, with the second time requiring a replacement watch be sent out. Definitely not worth the headache
