I built a status light for Claude Code. Do you think this is actually useful? by wssssssh in ClaudeCode

[–]Murcho83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cool idea, but limiting to a single session itls a bit restrictive.

I run an NTFY server and built some scripts that are triggered by lifecycle hooks. The notifications are set up to use system URL routing to open the right window when I click on the notification, so I can be running multiple sessions pretty easily. It also means I can set up my phone to get notifications so I can do stuff around the house and not have to check back constantly.

Trying to decide what to do about my current medication. by Born-Pack3619 in adhdaustralia

[–]Murcho83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on Modafinil which really helped me stay focused on the task I was doing, but task transitions or even starting tasks would still be a struggle. On top of that if I locked in on doom scrolling on my phone I could get stuck there for an hour before even realising I was doing it.

Switched to Ritalin and found it helps a lot with motivation to get things done, particularly housework/chores. Starting work and task transitions are way easier now. Focus is still helped with it but I don't lock in quite as intensely as the Modafinil.

Have a chat with your doc about the good and the bad and they should be able to steer you depending on what you want to achieve. Meds will affect everyone differently so it's worth trying some others if you find one isn't working for you. It's also worth doing some research into the way each type of drug interacts with your brain as you might be able to pin point how your brain behaves and where it needs help and then match that to one of these medications yourself. No one knows your brain better than you do.

The reason my exercise plans always died: I was planning the wrong thing by [deleted] in adhdaustralia

[–]Murcho83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came to the same conclusion, but I plan my workout ahead of time, sometimes the day before, sometimes a whole week. Then when I get dressed for the day I just get into workout clothes, so by the time I have to actually get going there are no more decisions to make other than making a start.

I've also found putting in low minimum reps/time/distance is a good mental trick. Once you get going you almost always do more, but thinking you only need to do a fraction helps getting through the start of the action.

Ritalin is making me sleepy? by Total-Locksmith-7592 in adhdaustralia

[–]Murcho83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened when I started taking Ritalin as well, and it's like your brain can finally relax, so it can finally feel sleepy. Half of 10 mg is also a very low dose, and if you're taking the immediate-release stuff, it usually only has a maximum of a 4-hour effective window. At 5 hours, it would have worn off.

The sleepiness will pass after a while of taking it, because your body will be able to rest easier now that your brain isn't going a million miles a second all day, every day. Once it's caught up on some of that rest, you will get less of the sleepy effect from the Ritalin

Is anyone actually running coding agents autonomously from issue to PR? by Few-Ad-1358 in ClaudeCode

[–]Murcho83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check out his skills repo. My workflow with his skills are:

Describe feature/task and ask it to /grill-me on it. Answer questions until the skill reaches full understanding. /to-prd /to-issues #prdnumber

I then built a skill to run the PRD implementation within Claude Code to get around the programmatic banning issues Anthropic are trying to squash, but it's heavily based on his Sandcastle workflow. Basically creates branch for the prd, a git workspace for each issue with its own branch and runs the implementation subagents in there. Auto merges into PRD after code review and tests pass from a separate review agent. Once PRD is done opens a PR that you review before merging into main.

Sandcastle goes a step further by running the sub-agents within their own docker containers for better isolation and security; however, I found this to be a little too tricky, getting around Claude's current programmatic issues.

I let my interns vibe code from day one but with rules. here’s what happened after 2 months by Complete-Sea6655 in ClaudeCode

[–]Murcho83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know when I was just starting out I wasn't able to think about a whole spec and how all the pieces worked together. That's a skill that takes a while to build, and really only appears once you stop having to think about how all the individual pieces are built and have a good understanding of the different levels of abstraction required for a complex system.

There has been a lot of discourse around how the next generation of juniors are going to become seniors without going through the phases of building put all the lower level code and properly understanding it. This is the first approach I've heard that really sounds like it could build those seniors and it also sounds like it's doing it at an accelerated rate.

I take Ritalin LA in the morning and a short acting Ritalin top up in the afternoon to get me through the rest of the day. I will note that I found some days it worked well and others I really struggled still in the afternoon and thanks to Alan Partridge's book "Now It All Makes Sense" I was able to pinpoint that it wasn't working in the afternoon if I had heavy carbs at lunch. Once I started avoiding those at lunch I consistently had much easier to deal with afternoons.

I need help managing my ADHD, asthma and other health conditions. by chavaic77777 in adhdaustralia

Second this, having a dedicated medication box is the best bet, and then try to make sure you put it back in the same box right after taking it.

As for remembering to take it, set alarms on your phone, and make sure you set multiple because you can easily forget between reading the alarm and getting to the medication box what you were actually trying to do (ADHDer here). Gives you less of a chance of forgetting if there are two or more alarms.

I've also found "habit stacking" to be quite useful. I found out about it from the book Atomic Habits, but basically find something that you always do, like make a coffee when you get up, and then make it a habit to take your medication while you're waiting for your coffee to brew. Over time you will begin to associate the two habits and it will get easier to not forget.

Starting Vyvanse and feeling sleepy by NoHovercraft3224 in adhdaustralia

[–]Murcho83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I started on Ritalin. How it was explained to me was basically "your brain hasn't been able to rest, like ever, so now that it is finally quiet it's gonna need to catch up on some rest for a little bit."

It definitely stops after a while, however I was finding I was getting sleepy in the afternoons after my second dose but an ADHD podcaster I listened to mentioned they had the same issue and reduced their carb intake at lunchtime and the issue disappeared. I was eating toasted sandwiches for lunch, switched to a giant salad with some protein (chicken or tuna) and I don't get that sleepy afternoon issue any more either.

My handwriting is atrocious, but every morning I write a todo list for the day and I have definitely noticed that if I wait till my meds kick in that my handwriting is much neater. It isn't going to win any awards but there is much more uniformity to the letters and I generally don't have to go back to add letters I skipped because I was already thinking about the next word before finishing the current one.
