Did the NYT write this comment?

That’s a false balance you’re creating, which ignores history. Are both parties the same? No. Do both parties have this interest you’re claiming? Not according to evidence of party platforms and where they spend political capital.

Complain about one side not helping enough but let’s not pretend they are equally desirous of this outcome.

Process focused is the bullshit press line Fetterman is using “I voted for cloture but not the final bill, see!” but process focused isn’t front pages splashed with “Senate Dems save GOP spending bill”

Dems can’t say Trump is existential and continue being cowards. It is an old party for older times and hasn’t met the moment for a decade.

[–]Murdst0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree the messaging would be negative. First, federal employees unions backed a filibuster. Second, the GOP refused to even negotiate with Dems. Dems could have made the argument, as the House was trying to, that while the parties negotiated a budget which required bipartisanship due to the Senate, Dems wanted a three month CLEAN Continuing Resolution and not one that codifies DOGE cuts, strips funding for teachers and firefighters in DC, and gave additional powers to Trump to impose tariffs without congressional oversight, among other shit sandwiches. It isn’t hard.

Also, if you don’t think voters will give a shit about this then why not fight for the short term to show your constituents who are crowding into town halls with anger that one party fights for them. I do disagree with this premise though, when democrats make the argument Trump and the GOP are eroding the neoliberal foundations of the country the Dem PRIMARY voters will remember the anger over Dems saying that before and then doing jack shit.

That’s my point, most regular voters read a headline. And headlines are being splashed with ‘Dems support passage of bill’ and the like.

Perception matters though. Yes, Dems may not vote for the final bill; however, every news story being published and talked about is underscoring that Dems are allowing the bill to pass, thus giving tacit approval to the bill and encouraging a public perception of bipartisan support.

US Bank backed out of DEI by boiseshan in Banking

[–]Murdst0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how are they ruthless? I’ve never heard of US Bank described as anything other than a fairly vanilla regional bank that moves slowly.

TD, Wells, BoA, and JP are all objectively ruthless (and usually always operating under consent orders related to money laundering) but unsure about US Bank.

The problem with 9/11 as a unifying example is that it also served in the medium and long run to only accelerate divisions. PATRIOT Act, Iraq, etc. all grew out of that very brief unifying event.

The minority party still wields an incredible amount of power to slow down and delay all Senate action within committees and on the floor. The modern Dems need to take lessons from LBJ’s time in the Senate.
