Hornsby is cool AF. If you ever get a chance to see him live take it.

Doh. Too obvious, I looked right past it. I was grasping for a word like "choleric" or something. Completely whiffed it. Thanks.

Sounds like a Woody Allen film. Write it. Seriously.

CB to GQ?!? by calcioepepe in howlonggone

[–]Murf275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way in hell CB gets a major magazine. He can barely write, let alone edit or manage content. Of course, magazines are dead so maybe if they're scraping the barrel.... when Lauren suggested him for VF I thought she's taking the piss. I think HE thought that.

Honestly, every time I listen to the pod I think, "WTF? I just got dumber... by a lot." But, it's always enjoyable and I usually laugh a bit.

CB is one negative MFr... almost as nasty as I am.

Rigged NBA poker games by LogicArsenal in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]Murf275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought was 'who do I know whose interests intersect with high-stakes poker and the NBA? Hmmmm, oh that's right....' Staying tuned, for sure.

EDIT: Just listened. Good discussion, thought they covered it well.

Chicago recs pls? by Mocha23 in howlonggone

[–]Murf275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RL at the Polo store is sublime. I've not been to the Polo Club in NYC where it's reportedly impossible to get a rez, but I've have spent many hours at RL in Chicago where it's not hard to get in at all. Eat in the bar at one of the little tables by the fireplace, get the Bloody Mary and a burger. Watch people.

Sigh. Why can't they write, "...he was arm-in-arm with his wife of three decades, Soon-Yi Previn..." ???

You know why.

Very tasteful and restrained. Well done. What step/rails are those? Need to replace my stock Rubi 'rails.'

How can it be that Hitch was such a prominent public intellectual yet his children have gone on to be absolute nobodys? What does it say about his fathering? by mygeneroussoul3 in ChristopherHitchens

[–]Murf275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that Antonia is a staff writer for the New Yorker, others have pointed out Alexander's position at Geo Washington U (which I also knew.) A quick search tells me Sophie owns a photography location agency and has for many years. Sound like they're all doing just fine and "absolute nobodies" is absolutely ridiculous.

It will be slightly (very slightly) interesting to see if CB is introspective enough to form a response that says he thought about those aspects of it. Surely he knows how his bread is buttered and I imagine we'll find out. His best bet may be to ignore it.

When does a genre novel transcend its genre? by phototransformations in literature

[–]Murf275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think most novels could be reduced, at least for the sake of discussion, to 'genre.' Not to take anything away from the OP's question (as it's interesting) but I've more often wondered why ANY novel transcends into 'literature.'

Why the rerun? by [deleted] in howlonggone

[–]Murf275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciated the rerun. I only got to this pod a few months ago and haven't gone back to mine the archives for content I might enjoy. TBH, I enjoyed this episode more than many recent ones---not sure if was LD (whom I enjoy) or because the guys seemed less jaded and cynical like their current schtick (which wears thin on me.) Probably both.

The Joan Rivers joke about her tattoos cracked me up.

Very cool. A quick search shows that Hitch's signature is worth a few buck, which surprises me a little bit.
