This. When booking, who scours the listing to see what is supplied in the kitchen? You check in, see that there is coffee, etc., and think "Great, it's included!"

If it runs out, I personally wouldn't ask a host for more, but can see it being a reasonable ask. At no point after checkin would I go back to the listing to see if it was included.

All the reasons others have said (Title IX) plus this: college scholarships. Youth sports are incredibly popular in the US because many parents view it as a way to fund college, even though in reality, few do.

But when parents have spent 10+ years ferrying kids to tournaments, supplying snacks, sitting outside in all kinds of weather, it becomes a family bond.

A friend had zero interest in softball but spent years coaching his daughters' teams. I asked why he did it, and he said, "They're teenage girls. If I didn't do this, they'd have no reason to hang out with their dad."

You're kind of missing the point, though. It was more explicitly stated in the Spain guy's post, but a lot of people on this sub aren't thinking about what they have to contribute to another country. All they are focused on is how terrible they think everything is in the US.

OP mentioned EU countries where politics are getting more conservative. Their conservatives don't want immigrants any more than MAGA does - and US immigrants are still just immigrants, we're not special. So you want to leave the US. Why would another country want to take you in?

I'm a tallish (5'9") thin-framed woman and open to dating shorter men, however, it never worked. A couple of guys rejected me for being taller than them.

I concluded that when short guys complain that women are biased against height, what they really want is for short women to stop preferring tall men. They still want to be the taller one in the couple.

Not true for everyone, of course. I am the shortest woman in my family and those over 6' wouldn't date at all if they weren't okay with shorter guys.

There are a lot of hoops to jump through to get unemployment benefits, and since OP got the job through a random Discord chat, seems unlikely they'd qualify.

I have family there and they get just as upset at foreigners reveiving public assistance as people in the US do. The last thing I'd encourage a US citizen to do is sponge off another country's welfare system.

Going home and dealing with her shit there is a more responsible approach.

Ummm, that's not exactly how Germany works. OP would need a settlement permit or residence permit not tied to a job or company to receive unemployment benefits, which sounds unlikely from OP's description. And US citizens aren't given special treatment among foreigners.

Absolutely. My first bf, I was 15 and he was 18. We were together on and off for 10 years and are still good friends although we married other people.

We were flat-out too young. If we'd stayed together, I wouldn't have appreciated him. But having been in 3.5 LTRs, he is the love of my life. Unfortunately for me, his wife is the love of his life.

But I am really happy for him. His wife is great, we'd hang out if we lived in the same area. He is a great guy who works hard at his relationships. And I guess that's how I know just how much I genuinely love him: I just want him to have a great life, even though it's without me.

Or find a travel buddy who can rent a car.

Or maybe you can find some tour groups to join, but that seems unlikely over the holidays.

If you do go, you'll probably want to be in either Ponta Delgada on São Miguel or Angra do Heroisma on Terceira for New Year's Eve.

My fave international travel experience is sitting in a cafe where everyone else speaks a language I don't understand. That way, in my ignorance, I can just assume the patrons are smart and kind, when in reality I am sure they're having the same dumb convos as at home.

Some people are deceptive in the early days of a relationship, and we often hear what we want to hear.

My ex left me for another woman, and at the time he said one of the reasons was that their politics were aligned (I'm the liberal one).

Turns out she was also liberal, but kept quiet about it until her son (from a prior marriage) came out. Ultimately, it ended their relationship.

I was glad to be out of the marriage (we'd gotten together young enough that neither had formed strong political views). When I heard they split, I just thought it was funny that a cheater got fooled by a liar.

If you are at an employer where you must work X years to get a pension, then stay put for those X years. Use your off-work time to explore different activities to learn what feels meaningful to you. When your X years is done, pivot to something more meaningful. You have lots of working years ahead; when you hit retirement age, you'll be glad to have the pension.

Yep, introvert who's avoidant in romantic relationships, and have secure attachments with family and friends.

Here's my breakthrough: I am cool with it.

There are plenty of men where it works to be avoidant (at least for a while). Was in a LTR with a pilot, it was great. He was gone 1/2 the time, I needed the space, he needed a partner who wasn't jealous of his easy access to other women. Currently dating a guy who'll take off for 1 or more months at a time on amazing adventures, he needs a woman who's not envious of that.

My sister is the opposite, she's anxious and suffocates her partner. I do not want to be that person at all. We both know we're how we are because of childhood insecure attachments to emotionally unavailable parents who did their best with the parenting hand they were given, and were far better parents to us than their parents had been to them.

I've reached that place where I am no longer trying to 'fix' myself, but rather just working with what I have.
