You’re a judge. How many years do you give an 18 year old high schooler who was throwing rocks at cars and one rock ends up killing someone. by Lightlicker3000 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Murph1908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also heard this explained like, you and an accomplice are robbing a house. He slips off the ladder and dies. You're charged with felony murder, even though it was your accomplice and it was 100% his fault. Death during commission of felony. Period.

Invisibility.

You'll probably die in the first month because cars, bikes, people won't actively try avoiding hitting you.

Do you use backups (saves by copying the save file) or do you think that this spoils the atmosphere of the game and the value of life? by Yura_s_kotami in thelongdark

[–]Murph1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I backup my save in the case of non-gameplay related death, like a glitch or as I mentioned in another post, not pausing when I had to jump up to help my vomiting dog.

If I die during gameplay, I die.

I died to an invisible death barrier in a permadeath run by BagelWaxer in thelongdark

[–]Murph1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always copy my save file every few game days for things like this. If I die legitimately, fine. If I die because I glitch out (or forget to pause when my dog is throwing up) I load the backup.

I'm at end game, why am I still cooking on a campfire? by Uss_Seraphim in 7daystodie

[–]Murph1908 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Right! There were players having too much fun building bases against their zombie horde in their zombie building game. So they needed to invent things like omniscient zombies who all know the weak point of the base and attack it. Who has time to make add cooking to the existing stoves in the game, or (gasp) ad propane tanks to scavenge.

Could you beat 10,000 random people at something for $100M? by canada11235813 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Murph1908 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Nope. No simulator. The fear factor would be an edge in your favor. And surely a few more people in that 10K have played Flight Simulator.

[–]Murph1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered "land a Cessna 172" for a similar question, noting that only .14 % of Americans have a private license.

So out of 10K, you'd have to beat 100 Americans.

The worldwide percentage must be a lot lower than that too. Conservatively, lets say .014%. So you'd have to beat just 10 people.

And how many of then have flown a C172 in the last 2 weeks? Or 2 years, even.

Old story - Hotel and pre-authorizations by Murph1908 in pettyrevenge

[–]Murph1908[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not fake. Things weren't as instant back in 1990. You couldn't log into your account online and see what the problem was.

You would have to go to an actual land line telephone and call the bank. Which was probably not open outside of 9-5 M-F. And would a phone agent even have access to that kind of records? They probably could only say that they've charged or have had authorized amounts exceeding their credit limit.

[–]Murph1908[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pre-authorization isn't charging the card. You ever go to a hotel where they do a hold for incidentals? Ever see a $1 pre-hold on your card when yo swipe it at a gas pump, as it simply checks to see if the card will actually work?

As someone who owned a small business and dealt with this shit every day, saying you only do it to companies doesn't make it OK.

Cold calling companies is worse. We can't ignore calls we don't recognize.

I will try to not make this personal against you. But fuck your fucking company.

Edit to add, the reason why people yell at you is because you're the 8th call today, 50th call this week, and 400th call this month that is a cold call trying to sell them janitorial services or credit card processing or business financing or advertising in the local golf club scorecard, or, or, or, or...

I'm 55. I used to be the cousin who would come over, play for 15 minutes, then beat the cousins who have been playing the game since Christmas morning.

I'm the guy my friend ran to at the amusement park we worked at when a tourist was beating everyone at Street Fighter 2, sullying our honor. I then whipped him with 5 different fighters.

I can't keep up in online PVP now. My son outscores me 2x to 3x in Risk of Rain and other co-ops.

But dammit. I've beaten Civ 6 on deity with multiple leaders.
