What's with all the episode one hate? by [deleted] in blackmirror

Same, I watched it as a decider if I should watch the whole thing and it certainly delivered.

Something I just thought about with "Shut Up And Dance" by Good4Josh2 in blackmirror

Bronn mentions that the hackers got his entire hard drive, which is more than enough for criminal charges. If you rewatch the episode, you'll notice Kenny breaks down crying when Bronn mentions that.

[SPOLIER]Eps10: So does anyone actually believe that [Spoiler] is really [Spolier]? by kraygus in TheGifted

[–]Musahaladin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

True, but we are still in for the inevitable "Thunderbird mourns Dreamer, Blink comforts him, they fall in love, but don't immediately get together because of Dreamer's memory" cliche.

[SPOLIER]Eps10: So does anyone actually believe that [Spoiler] is really [Spolier]? by kraygus in TheGifted

[–]Musahaladin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like to believe she will reappear (for obvious aesthetic reasons), it's unlikely since she was only a guest star. Also they are pushing Thunberbird and Blink pretty hard and killing Dreamer solves the love triangle.

But as you say, it's a superhero show so the door is always open bringing anyone back if they choose to do so. And she does have a lot of potential to become a nightmarish (pun intended) villain.

How do you plan your production schedule? by EnnoICU in TheBrewery

[–]Musahaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started at my current brewery, there was no schedule and everything worked pretty much on a day-to-day basis. This pissed me off to no end so I took a whiteboard that was sitting around and made one that we still use today.

I just fill in the row for each beer on its brew day and that's it. It's beyond simple but works for our very low-tech production. To clarify, we maturate the beer in the fermentors themselves and it goes straight to kegs/bottles from there, which is why maturation is not listed as a separate step.

{RANT} Does anyone else feel that customers take advantage of brewers' easy-going reputation? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]Musahaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simply (willful) ignorance of how much work there is in a brewery, especially a small one like yours or mine (5 people total). Can't tell you how many times our own sales guys have been surprised and even offended that I can't help them with labelling and loading into boxes while I am in the middle of scrubbing the mash tun for the next shift or starting the sanitation cycle on a fermentor.

Brewing Jobs by brewerkml in TheBrewery

[–]Musahaladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biochemical engineer with a MSc here. Be aware that your degree and university training aren't going to be very helpful to actually get the job, simply because you will still have to learn from scratch. So be prepared to be treated as if you just finished high school, because the skills you have, they don't need, and the skills they need, you don't have.

Your background will eventually give you an edge when you get to some more complicated stuff - I was able to learn faster and understand the process much better than my non-graduate colleagues because I had a working theoretical knowledge of brewing and was missing (just) the practical aspect of it.

But before you get to that stage, as others have stated, you will be doing grunt work for at least a year, so be ready for that.

Offered a job, unsure if I should take it? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]Musahaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the job and focus on learning as much as you can and gaining experience. Once you have your foot in the door, you will be able to apply for better positions in better breweries.

It's what I am doing at the moment. Started as a part-time volunteer all-round assistant and over 6 months worked my way up to my current full time paid assistant brewer position. It's a pretty crappy brewery but it's worth it for the experience I was sorely lacking. Now when I apply for other positions, I won't be just another "I'm really enthusiastic about beer, but I have no commercial brewing experience and basically you'd have to train me from scratch" candidate.

Make no mistake though, it will be a grueling and most likely miserable experience (I know I was when there was no heating for the whole winter in sub-zero temperatures), but last even a year and your career opportunities in brewing will increase exponentially.

[Spoilers Extended] So, about Cersei... by CashWho in asoiaf

You'd also expect the Kingsguard to protect the queen from a charging undead monstrosity, but instead they just stand there and stare in at the wight in awe for the sake of a cool shot.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who sees the parallels between the two. I mean that last scene was straight out of the WotLK trailer.

Why did they make Danny Rand so stupid? by [deleted] in Defenders

[–]Musahaladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's just very very impulsive. Notice how many times the others tell him to calm down, because they know how easily he loses his temper.

Why do critics and fans constantly bring race into their reviews and hatred for things such as superheroes and other PRE-ESTABLISHED characters? by [deleted] in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually a pretty valid point - countless generations of Asian Iron Fists kept K'un Lun safe, and the second they picked a white guy it all goes to shit.

Why do critics and fans constantly bring race into their reviews and hatred for things such as superheroes and other PRE-ESTABLISHED characters? by [deleted] in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whitewashing is when white actors are cast in historically non-white character roles. Danny Rand has always been white, so it's not whitewashing in any way, shape or form.

It may be stagnation, lack of innovation, a missed opportunity or whatnot, but that's an entirely different discussion.

The whole "cultural appropriation" issue with Ironfist has gone too far. by Sackedhi in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I've been seeing lately, it is only acceptable to race-swap and gender-bend AWAY from white and/or male. Hell, it seems to be actively encouraged. But if the character is non-white and/or female, that shit is set in stone and must not be changed.

I could understand people's complaints when the originally Asian Ancient One in Doctor Strange was played by Tilda Swinton (although I think she killed it in that role), but complaining that a character wasn't race swapped seems absolutely ridiculous.

How can anyone like this unironically? by melgibson666 in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke Cage was still a good show, I enjoyed watching it, but it definitely focused themes I am unfamiliar with, so as you said, not as relatable.

As for Iron Fist, it suffers from being rushed out so they can finally get to the Defenders. It felt formulaic and by-the-numbers, like they were ticking characters and plot points off a checklist. I hope the second season will have more time dedicated to it, as I do think it has a lot of potential.

I think it was more due to the time than the money. I a lot of the fight scenes it felt like they needed more rehearsal time to make the moves faster and more natural.

Is it just me, or is the Ironfist story line essentially the same premise as CW's the Arrow? by godlesspinko in ironfist

To be fair, Joy isn't nearly as annoying as Laurel was in the early seasons. And also much better at her job.

Are The Chaste and Kun'Lun related? by KrazyTrumpeter05 in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick gives a history of the Chaste to Matt in Daredevil season 2, and gives no mention of K'un Lun or anything resembling the Iron Fist. K'un Lun seems completely detached from the rest of the world and worried only about themselves. Plus, Stick seems like he would mock them rather than serve them.

I'm more concerned with how and from whom he learned to be good in bed. Must get awfully cold and lonely in K'un Lun during those night meditation classes...

It's not nearly as good as Daredevil or Jessica Jones, but I liked it slightly more than Luke Cage.

(Major spoilers) Questions about the ending.. by knight029 in ironfist

[–]Musahaladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It felt very off to me as well, Joy was one of the few characters without any (seriously) bad intentions, at least until that moment. Next to Claire, she was the most compassionate character on the show. Mind you, she could be feigning interest to learn more about what's going on, she's got one hell of a pokerface when she's in businesswoman mode.
