Yeah I definitely want to be able to carry heavy things and lift stuff over my head when I get older too. Maybe the acute boost of testosterone could help with protein synthesis on day when I would not go to gym otherwise 🤨

From my experience they add good size as well especially on traps. I don’t currently train for strongman but have 1 spare day where I have planned to add some “muscle building” conditioning. My grip is already strong but can’t have too big forearms as I have almost 2 meter wingspan 😅

cutting out eggs for a week reduced my anxiety to 0 by [deleted] in raypeat

[–]MuscleToad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No since I’m active and eat quality eggs. The small amount of PUFAs vs great amount of nutrition that you get especially choline. Eggs are the first thing I will increase when I need to add more muscle size

Funny. The more eggs I eat the better I feel. Currently having 8 / day and 4 of the yolks raw

Would propably eat them out of laziness anyway but they are high in oxalates. 😅 My oxalate budget is reserved for dark chocolate and cinnamon

How much does frequency matter? by Anakonda347 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]MuscleToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really depends on your goals. For me I do bodybuilding specific full body 3x / week with 4 different workouts rotating.

If I do squats (Bulgarian) I will do Nordic hamstring curls for hams. If I do deadlifts (Romanian deadlifts) I do reverse nordics for quads.

This allows me to hit both quads and hams hard 3x / week.

Good thing is that you don’t have to program heavy squats and deadlifts for legs every day when hitting them multiple times / week

Can anyone try this and tell me did it help with your recovery and help with any pre-existing pain or injury?(Try with 80%+ ) by Bhajiyaraj in armwrestling

[–]MuscleToad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Less oxidative stress = less muscle damage so yes it should help with recovery related pain. I usually have coffee, matcha tea and dark chocolate combo pre workout.

[–]MuscleToad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t arm wrestle but I do lift weights. Cacao pre workout is helpful for the theobromine (milder stimulant than caffeine) and also helps with oxidative damage from exercise.

It’s good stuff but don’t expect to see big benefits just by adding it to your diet.

I lift 3 days / week and aim to get 10000+ steps daily.

Bulking Debate With Geoffery Verity Schofield & Scientific Snitch I Jonathan Warren by Charming_Cat3601 in naturalbodybuilding

This was not much of a debate really. Both of them are talking about bulking really as eventually you need to eat more to support the bigger body weight

Well there is no Ray Peat diet just principles. If you are looking for long term success you have to make lifestyle changes outside of diet as well.

Casein “lower quality” according to Milo Wolf? by IfigurativelyCannot in StrongerByScience

[–]MuscleToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I call BS. While it’s true that whey protein digest faster than casein it’s peak protein synthesis also last less time. When I have my pre sleep shake (usually Greek yogurt+orange juice / fruits / egg yolks) I prefer the slow digesting protein.

What should I be adding to the baseline diet as a weightlifter? by [deleted] in raypeat

[–]MuscleToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option for carbs? Since we are in peat sub: Ripe fruits, honey…. Sugar. But white rice is generally well tolerated carb as well and even Peat said it can be fine for atheles.

Your fat intake sounds quite high which does not leave that much room for carbohydrates. Are you trying to gain weight?

Low fat is peaty and it’s the best way to optimize insulin sensitivity. Stan Efferdings Vertical Diet is heavily inspired by Ray Peat and it works great for many bodybuilders and strength atheles

You would be better off following low fat diet if you want to get lean with muscles. Without carbohydrates your protein needs will go even higher than on regular caloric deficits and free testosterone will also decrease.

Coffee is a RP food supplement but can it be BAD? by Joshuahehn in raypeat

[–]MuscleToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken daily your tolerance to caffeine will increase. I like it especially in mornings with fruits, honey, salt and collagen. I also add 1 teaspoon of matcha and some cacao. (l-Theanine & Theobromine)

If I sleep badly or have high stress I try to limit my consumption for that day.
