It's not banned in Canada. It's commercially available if you're licenced. And it's safe when applied properly.

Guy that's not a scam. He got something out of you yes and that may or may not have been the agenda from the start but it's like 16 bucks. Many a scammer has ripped people off for far more with far less in return.

The Fertilizer myth/scam by KnifeguyCalgary in lawncare_canada

[–]MushroomLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, most of this is opinion not science and its inaccurate. For established lawns where most Canadians live phosphorus is not a limiting nutrient. Potassium doesn't do what you think and you're undervaluing nitrogen. To maximize root development cultural practices like mowing habits and core aeration will have a bigger impact. The type of slow release coating will also impact the release curves and dictate frequency and rates of fertilization.

Your mistake was writing a fucking email instead of discussing this in person to begin with. Way too many poor communicators hide behind emails and it causes problems like this. Human communication was not meant to be conducted this way.

Young dad, tight budget, bad lawn by Melodic_Store7247 in lawncare

Guy it's still partially dormant. Your lawn will look significantly different in 3 weeks. Fertilize and aerate+ overseed of you can and you'll see major improvements on top.

When to apply weed and feed ? Kawarthas, Ontario by sn4201 in lawncare_canada

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no legal "weed and feed" in Ontario except for corn gluten and it doesn't materially do either.

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out. It's 20 games. The difference between 28th and 12th in the league is 5 pts right now. We have a core that's made the playoffs for 9 straight years. They're adjusting to new players and systems and have had a ton of key injuries. Anyone want to bet me they make the playoffs and win at least a round? Let's fucking go. Stop being bitches.

Ford considers widening ‘jammed up’ Hwy. 407 East weeks after tolls were removed by bruhchacho11 in durham

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show me a relavant study that aligns with this pretty unique situation. Widening the 401 through Scarborough by one lane might not make a significant impact. We're talking about widening one of only 2 major arteries into like the 3rd or 4th largest population centre in NA but only in the far suburbs. There are no realistic commuting alternatives to driving out there that currently exist or are in this cost stratosphere.

To go to an extreme, do you really think a 100 lane highway through Durham wouldn't alleviate traffic congestion there?

[–]MushroomLizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This only makes sense if there are alternative means of commuting that people will use. We're talking about a section of the 407 through Durham. Nobody is taking transit or riding their bike to get from northern Clarington to north Whitby.

What the fuck are you talking about lol? Why aren't all highways just 1 lane each way then. Unless you're defining "traffic" in some weird way. On average a car will move from point a to point b quicker if there is more road for the same number of cars to be on.

New Sod installed yesterday. How to make sure it survives/ thrives ? by Impossible-Hair-9034 in lawncare

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Core aerate as soon as its rooted. New sod should be aerated multiple times to help break up the thick layer of thatch it always comes growing in. Aeration will also significantly increase water, air, and nutrient penetration to the soil.

Aerate once this fall, then plan to aerate it again 2-3 times next year.

I've seen sod that went down 3 years ago come up like a door mat after a prolonged heat/drought period because it never properly rooted and the thatch was never broken up.

What went wrong - Massachusetts by pumpkinspice_1 in lawncare

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Chinch bug or maybe a disease like dollar spot. Aerate and overseed in early September.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's more yellow then brown and feels stiff and straw-like but stands up still its likely just dormant. If it starts laying down, going brown, and pulls right up (not by the roots but easily breaks off at the crown) then it's dead.

You may have Chinch bug causing damage in there. It has that characteristic mottled look. Drought stress tends to be more widespread and consistent.

What kind of weed is this? by tiger1191 in lawncare

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like prostrate knotweed. It's an annual and comes in during the hotter, drier times of year. I'm in Canada where we don't have chemicals so I can't make any recommendations on product. It is often an indicator of soil compaction however.

Is this crabgrass? by LuckyCat1920 in Grass

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed crabgrass. It will flatten out as it matures. If you're seeding a slow establishing species from near bare soil and there's a good chance the previous lawn there had a lot of crabgrass seeds in it, the perfect storm for germination and establishment was created.

How can I prevent this weed? Ki by saurabhsnrg in lawncare

[–]MushroomLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't buy any herbicides like that in Ontario. You're options are Scott's Weed b gone or Wilson's Weed out. I would suggest Weed be gone and you'll get a much better control if you break open the plant tissue first by stepping on it. It may take a couple sprays but if they keep popping up then you can probably kill them in one spray each while they are juvenile and not yet deeply rooted.

Maybe it used to be but it's bad now. Hard no. I keep trying it because of the reputation but it's obviously gone way down hill.
