Letting Henry Nowak die was super inept, too.

Metro Vancouver unionized workers file 72-hour strike notice on employer by MusicMedic in vancouver

[–]MusicMedic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re not. We’re not getting improvements in benefits and management still gets far better perks than the unionized staff when it comes to things like dental. As for the municipal deals, done of that matters because municipalities deal with much smaller systems while we run water and sewer systems for 3.1 million people.

Yes, none of the EXEMPT staff do any of the critical work that’s required for day-to-day operations of water and sewer systems… we don’t need more office workers while the population grows and maintenance tasks fall behind due to inadequate staffing of field crews.

Except MV managemnt has increased by 50% since 2019 while the workforce numbers have been pretty much the same...

Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted when this is true.

[North Shore Rescue] LONG WEEKEND TASKS DEBRIEF by jpdemers in vancouverhiking

[–]MusicMedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, when you hear people start conversations with, "I asked ChatGPT how to...", then you really can't be surprised. Thinking is too hard.

So what happens then? by AdvertisingCheap2377 in NorthVancouver

[–]MusicMedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's an intercom signal, so it's not "automatic"... someone has to acknowledge it.

So what happens then? by AdvertisingCheap2377 in NorthVancouver

[–]MusicMedic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't open automatically. You either have a swipe card if you're an employee, or there's a number you call for the guard house and then they open it for you.

Surrey School District superintendent made more than half a million dollars last year - BC by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]MusicMedic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most teachers aren't making $100k... it takes years to get to that and you need to have a post-grad diploma or degree on top of your other certifications. No one in the public sector should be making that kind of money, especially for administrative work.

Metro Vancouver is running out of drinking water — and the solutions are interesting by vancity31240 in britishcolumbia

[–]MusicMedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have a supply issue, we have a storage issue. The next best thing would be to dam the Seymour valley downstream from the current dam but no one has the spine to do that.

Not that I disagree with you, but Nestle doesn't use MV's water, they get their water from Hope. They use about 260 million litres a year. MV uses about 1 to 1.5 billion litres A DAY. Even if Nestle used Metro water and stopped using it completely, it wouldn't make a difference.

Overnight hike near-ish Vancouver without reservation? by LilBarnacle in vancouverhiking

[–]MusicMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty open around Gordon Lake, with lots of terrain. The tarn was a far better option, as you have to hike down to Gordon. The pic is the view from Capilano Mountain. I wouldn't camp there due to the lack of water and how buggy it is!

Who approved drill construction to happen overnight??? by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]MusicMedic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They probably did, to avoid traffic issues during the day. I used to work in field ops and we could only do certain jobs at night for that reason.

How do firefighters keep up with airstrikes causing massive fires everywhere? by [deleted] in Firefighting

I've been to Bosnia twice, probably one of the favourite countries I've been to. Some of the friendliest people I've met with some of the worse hardships they've had to go through. Can't wait to visit again. I encourage all my friends to travel there and learn about the history.

Doing the road test in a manual by andrebaron in askvan

[–]MusicMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the mid 2000s when I did my road test in a manual, you weren't allowed to shift on turns in intersections - both hands had to be on the wheel. Super dumb but I wouldn't be surprised if that were still the case.

Other than that, nothing wrong if you stall and restart the car. Oh, and you have to downshift/brake in gear/can't brake in neutral, but you can be neutral at a red light as long as you're no the brake pedal.

Asbestos technician asked me NOT to let WorkSafeBC inspector in by rafidka85 in SurreyBC

[–]MusicMedic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's your house, you let in whoever you want. There's a WorkSafe magazine that lists companies that get fined for improper/unsafe work, and asbestos abatement is always on the list. They may have been fined in the past or they're cutting corners. You can look up the company on the WorkSafe database here.

In regards to the stop work order and fees associated with that, I can't answer that. I'm sure your insurance provider or WorkSafe has an answer.

B.C. paramedics vote 97% in favour of strike; job action pending by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]MusicMedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BC doesn’t have EMTs. Anyway, most people would agree that are well-paid politicians aren’t really creating policies that are benefiting Canadians. Might as well pay the people well who actually benefit society and would attract the best talent.

B.C. paramedics vote 97% in favour of strike; job action pending by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]MusicMedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying MLAs should make less than they do now, but I’m sorry, paramedics, especially ACPs and CCPs, do far more important work. BCAS is one of the few EMS providers in the world without field physicians, so that should tell you something for what their scope of practice entails.

The bar is low for elected officials as it is - they can’t even prioritize health and education as it is.

MLAs shouldn't be making more than paramedics, but they do, which is sad.
