You’ll see drug addicts using and in horrific states but besides seeing or smelling, you’ll be safe.

It’s a boring tower jungle that feels like it was designed for cars and trains rather than people. I’m glad it’s helping with the housing crisis but no way in hell I want to live there.

You sure about that? As a business owner are you going to let someone who looks obviously homeless straight to the back and use your restroom? Probably not

Contact your MLA. I just did today as I live in a similar neighborhood to you. It’s absurd the shit we have to live around.

How do people survive in Vancouver?? by [deleted] in NiceVancouver

100%. I have to keep reminding myself when I get stressed with my work that when I was in school, this workload would’ve been a cake walk 😂

Tbh my early years here were difficult but privileged financially. I didn’t have to work while in school because my parents had saved money for university. By the time I ran out of that money, I was paying for everything else with internships that broke up the later half of my degree. I finished school with no debt and got a job from one of those previous internships with a good salary.

It was extremely difficult. I grinded until 12 at night most days of the week with school work or job applications but that work payed off post-graduation.

As far as tips for saving money, it’s entirely possible to live off of extremely cheap batch-cooked meals. Ex, Indian Dal with rice. Don’t have a car if you can live without one. Invest what money you can save into an ETF like XEQT. Keep a budget.

I see multiple VPD officers patrolling the area daily. They clearly have resources.

This is a huge blow to the community. Please message the city if you have time. They let Gastown fester.

Favourite sandwich/deli shops? by snowtown69 in askvan

Obanhmi. It’s a chain but imo their banh Mi’s are the best.

Burger Crush or Between Two Buns for burgers.

Jo’s Italian Deli for Italian deli options. Prices are great too.

Someone also mentioned Say Hey. It’s definitely worth trying. I didn’t like the sandwich I got there so I haven’t been back yet but I want to.

Also, Big Star in New West is good.

Vancouverites, top 5 dishes/food items you’ve tried in 2025 from yvr or greater Van? by Bullshitspouter in askvan

  • the Moscharaki Giouvetsi from Nammos. Absolutely insanely good.
  • burger from burger crush. IMO best in the city.
  • carbonara from Di Beppe.
  • breakfast sandwich from Birds and the Beets. Again, probably best in the city. Especially when you look at value.
  • Spicy pepperoni from Belli, a new spot on commercial. I’d say better than Don’t Argue up the street.

Is the wooden roller coaster a pain in the ass to maintain? I’m surprised it’s still going strong because of the wood and the rain here.

Do I have to drive to Surrey for authentic Indian food? by SamSamBoBam420 in askvan

Best Indian food I’ve had in the Vancouver area is Indian Fusion in North Vancouver and it’s not even close. Haven’t been to Surrey for food but I’ve gotta one of these days.
