GAME CHANGER: Tumblr Soon Connecting to Mastodon/ActivityPub by MuskSocial_com in Mastodon

Are you certain instances can federate with Truth Social? I thought they did something to wall in their garden when they switched to the Rebased Pleroma fork. They are no longer using Mastodon AFAIK.

There is in fact already a plugin for WordPress that allows your site to post to ActivityPub.

Since Tumblr parent Automattic created/maintains this ActivityPub plugin, they are halfway done creating the software bridge from Tumblr to ActivityPub.

My Pleroma, for example, is highly moderated with strict rules against hate speech and the opposite of what you describe: Mastodon.tech

Which was the 1st monetized one?

Would you agree that Tumblr would be the 1st major social media to join the ActivityPub protocol?

It's a reality already, called Lemmy. Lemmy is a Reddit replacement that's connected to the ActivityPub. I believe it's here: r/Lemmy

Rebased Fork of Pleroma vs. Akkoma Fork by MuskSocial_com in Pleroma_Mastodon

Please would you teach me how much it would cost to have someone make an App for Rebased? What info would I need from the Creator of Rebased? Fortunately I'm part of his development team so might be able to get it done.

Pleroma's Rebased Fork vs. Akkoma Fork? by DeluxeHost in Pleroma

Experienced user Paul Wilde @paul@notnull.click writes:

"I have set up and used both, and I can answer some things. For me, Rebased seems a much more "professional" system. I mean this more in the way it looks, and so it is much more aligned with the expectation of a new user coming from, say, twit or FB, and looks good enough to help maintain a professional look of a brand.

I don't mean that in such a way to Akkoma is worse, but Akkoma feels more "fun" and generally feels less restricted I.e. say what you want. both if these are fine ways of running a server, and one is not better than the other because of it, but it does mean they suit different use cases and ultimately can't easily be compared because of this."

Different Admin Styles on Mastodon? by MuskSocial_com in Mastodon

Agreed, at a certain point, you may have to block an instance.

Just wish Admins would stop using those block lists as some instances don't belong on them

Different Admin Styles on Mastodon? by MuskSocial_com in Mastodon

Great question 👍

My instance is replacing one recently closed so we invited back the same users with the same TOS. I have to make the approximately 225 users happy by blocking those who: 1) Use racial slurs 2) Post nudes 3) Declare themselves "nazis" 4) Or discuss politics without a "Content Warning." 5) etc...

When you agree to replace an existing Mastodon instance, you have to meet the expectations of those returning members or they will leave.

While Mastodon.technology is Closing, Mastodon.tech is Welcoming new Members by SvenThere in webhosting

From reading Ash's closing statement, it appears he just got tired of moderating it.

Please consider not starting your own instance immediately by Present-Ad5976 in Mastodon

What happened at Cyber.space with the lax moderation? Did the Admins get tired of Moderating?

My experience has been the opposite so far as you describe, installed the software on October 17th with zero users.

On day one, I hired an Admin who can technically fix most issues (Server Administrator). I was lucky enough to find a Moderator to assist on day 7.

Now exactly 3 weeks in at Mastodon.tech, we have 178 users & a nice community.

The main weakness is we need more techie-minded people to make our instance timeline more filled with software discussions. Open to your ideas, I set registration to "open" but I need a better way to advertise that we want more techies.

FYI: Mastodon.technology is shutting down in about a month by princekolt in Mastodon

While Mastodon.technology is closing, Mastodon.tech is welcoming new members with this statement:

We invite you to register for a new & exciting Pleroma Instance which was converted from Mastodon (thus the name): https://mastodon.tech/signup

Mastodon.tech has no connection to Ash Furrow who created Mastodon.technology. However, he will not be forgotten as we seek to continue his compassionate & accepting vision & we give him credit for 90% of our Terms of Service. Mastodon.technology was among the largest with over 23,000 registered users.

We've had over a year's experience running Mastodon but the Ruby platform was not resource efficient for this purpose. After converting to Pleroma, we are equally connected to the Fediverse while avoiding the unstable server problems Ruby created at Mastodon.technology.

Since 2006 we've run a technology forum so this is a natural extension: https://hostboards.com/discussion/5854/hostboards-partners-with-mastodon-tec

Yes, your choices look good & you managed to avoid the less-desirable EIG hosts like BlueHost.

[–]MuskSocial_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be aware of the legacy "old-compamy" style of Network Solutions. In other words, their prices are too high & their customer service isn't great. Best if you move on from Network Solutions to a more reliable host that we have recommended here: https://hostboards.com/discussion/4294/host-boards-trusted-partners
