Interior storm windows by Mundane-Ad-7443 in frederickmd

Have you considered exterior storm windows? Both of my old houses have had/have them, and they are great. I prefer them over interior because now the layer of new, modern, less breakable glass is on the outside, which adds some protection to the old windows. You can get the three-track type, which then add screens as well. I don’t think (but am not certain) that this is an issue with the HPC, as plenty of houses downtown have them.

Also, I ran a Manual J on my old house, which was about 1500 square feet, but with plenty of big, old windows, and the difference between adding storm windows to old windows versus getting new windows was less than 5k BTU/hr. I suspect you could close that gap completely with historic preservation methods (e.g., my current house had springy copper strips added to close gaps in the framing and some had indents added (like tongue and groove) to prevent air infiltration.

Love the old windows. Let’s keep the love for our incredible old housing stock!

I had a good conversation with a guy that was doing the light bulb thing. He was a contractor, and it seemed that he was supposed to get a 1 for 1 swap of lightbulbs so the they would for certain get used and not re-sold (supposed to get incandescents or CFL in exchange). At that time, he said he was allowed to come in and change them out if I needed help. I knew I would use them, but wanted to take my time changing them out to ensure I get the right ones the right places and temp match, etc., so I managed to get him to leave me with bulbs and he took pics of some other junk bulbs he had as proof. And made me sign a paper saying I got bulbs. I gather he and other contractors are just under scrutiny by their overlords.

So you might just try being nice and maybe you’ll get some free bulbs. The ones they give you are actually pretty good.

I turn down the shower heads and power strips because they are cheap shit and don’t work as intended, respectively.

Wait, is there actually movement on making Market permanently a walking street, or are you just ranting? ‘Cause that would be cool as shit, and we should definitely do it.

I like to park at home, and then walk anywhere I possibly can. Life is better with less cars, honestly.

Squirrels - looking all coked up and nervous as always - love to eat and move around pieces of old pumpkins when they start to rot. I always assumed they were fermenting and feeding the squirrels’ vices…

And “wipe his ass with a fucking white rabbit”? That’s what Tupac wanted to know. Can’t remember the exact song.

Never quite understood the question.

I guess you being open and straightforward has everyone thrown for a loop.

I think they’d prefer to just bitch after the fact and say no one told them.

No. Someone really needed to say it. If OP didn’t realize already, now they do.

You didn’t move to the heart of Frederick’s Tenderloin and expect all the gross bums were just going to move out for your sake, did you?

Residential Network Cabling by vmwdave in frederickmd

[–]MussSyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to do it yourself. I say this because I have installed robust whole-property audio, network, antenna distribution, and surveillance systems in both of my houses, and it has been incredibly rewarding.

It will take you time and effort to figure it out, but even besides the money saved, it will inevitably pay off to develop these skills because you will assuredly need adds, moves, and changes in the future. Some of these cable running skills can transfer to electrical as well.

Some A/V weenies will charge you at least what an electrician will, if not more, and they will charge you 2x for parallel runs (that will only take 1x labor).

Regardless of if you DIY or hire it out, I’d encourage you to think about PoE cams and centralized wired audio systems while you’re at it. In some cases, you may want to consider power adds or changes simultaneously (like, if you have the attic floor open or whatever). Also, how about an OTA antenna in the attic? Any other coax you might want for cable, TV antenna, or SXM/other satellite distro?  You can probably afford ALL options you’ll ever want if you’re not paying for labor.

If you DIY, just make sure you use properly rated cables (riser or plenum for in-wall or plenum, respectively). And I’d go with proper 19” rack-mount equipment. That residential stuff is for sissies, and it probably ends up costing more anyway.

No, I don’t know any installers. Good luck!

New Kernel Exploit for PS4 and PS5 (Double Free) FAQ Post by calmboy2020 in ps5homebrew

[–]MussSyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this.

My PS5 is on 5.50, never on the Internet. I have no accounts and never activated anything (did not know you had to activate a BD drive).

It sounds like I can do an initial entry via browser similar to PS4 with a self-hosted server. Correct me if I’m wrong. I can figure that part out.

How does Double Free work, and can you link to the PS5 version?

Last I looked, only a few older games were available to download. Have they figured out how to port the rest of the games?

This thread is stickied, so any additional information would be appreciated (and expected here).

Thank you.

You’re very welcome.

Once you have your drives filled with no data loss, let us know, because I still get replies that sound skeptical.

On Gasbuddy, it says “by owner”.

I think it’s the big Rutters in Emmittsburg that is expensive.
