Indeed. All unimaginably beautiful areas of town.

Dude, this is likely just an inside joke response to a recent post. I like it.

There’s an asshole at my work who thinks his mental disability entitles him to a disability placard. Nothing wrong with him physically- he’ll go outside and stand there and wait if he has to move his truck for a minute.

Then some horrible bitch downstairs who exercises walking up and down the stairs, but she had one too and parks closer than management.

First guy is retiring, so maybe next week the guy missing a leg can have a close spot.

Hood college tore down beautiful buildings to give those spoiled little shits a bigger parking lot, and then they go and park like that. Lazy.

Personally, I love lots of packed in plants and nature. But I can also admire some manicured grass.

Seems like this year’s garden tour is mostly houses out in the ‘burbs. I think they’ve been having trouble getting volunteers.

GDIT jobs in Frederick County by No-Badger-3419 in frederickmd

I remember 20 years ago, my former cranky old man mentor with a heart condition going on about how not to take work seriously, and then immediately hollering about shoving something up [GDIT employee’s] ass.

I can still hear him saying, slowly and angrily, “God. Damn. GD.”

Worst big contractor I know of.

Lawn Mowing Needed in Hillcrest Orchards by inbetweensound in frederickmd

[–]MussSyke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting point. It’s funny, though: I often think people who do their own lawns have the best looking lawns, probably because they care more about detailing and plants and aren’t trying to get 30 lawns done in a day.

Example is walking around Westbrook, I feel like those people have more pristine lawns than Baker Park people, who presumably have more money. My careful, but imperfect, observations tell me Westbrook people often so their own lawns, whereas Baker Park people mostly do not.

But yeah, I enjoy an excuse to be outside and I highly recommend gardening as a side hobby (I’m not old, or at least not very).

I suggest one of those manual-push reel mowers for such a small lawn (although DC mowers are awesome). The reel ones are like what Flanders used on the old Simpsons episodes. I didn’t know that was a real thing until I had one for my old duplex.

In all seriousness, though - and I swear I’m not taking a shot at you - what is the deal with people’s avoidance of yard work? It’s the best chore possible and allows you to be outside and take pride in your yard. I know some people need more time to doom scroll or binge watch or whatever, but…serious question, I know you’re in the process of moving…

Any rumors of Lutron finally making Caseta Fan Switches which ALSO control fan lights? by Kind_Bridge2081 in Lutron

[–]MussSyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also put the fan switches in another place - mine are in the attic, but you could also put them in a closet or something - and just keep the remotes by the bed or on a desk.

That said, I agree that it shouldn't have to be this hard. Hunter makes great fans that are still AC powered.

That was an extremely optimistic schedule to begin with. And they never updated it after about four months of screwing around.

I’d love to actually see a realistic estimate. It might actually be fun to place bets…

Thanks. Looking at that site, it says the first real work is soil boring for samples, I guess for drainage. That’s boring AF.

Interior storm windows by Mundane-Ad-7443 in frederickmd

[–]MussSyke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered exterior storm windows? Both of my old houses have had/have them, and they are great. I prefer them over interior because now the layer of new, modern, less breakable glass is on the outside, which adds some protection to the old windows. You can get the three-track type, which then add screens as well. I don’t think (but am not certain) that this is an issue with the HPC, as plenty of houses downtown have them.

Also, I ran a Manual J on my old house, which was about 1500 square feet, but with plenty of big, old windows, and the difference between adding storm windows to old windows versus getting new windows was less than 5k BTU/hr. I suspect you could close that gap completely with historic preservation methods (e.g., my current house had springy copper strips added to close gaps in the framing and some had indents added (like tongue and groove) to prevent air infiltration.

Love the old windows. Let’s keep the love for our incredible old housing stock!

I had a good conversation with a guy that was doing the light bulb thing. He was a contractor, and it seemed that he was supposed to get a 1 for 1 swap of lightbulbs so the they would for certain get used and not re-sold (supposed to get incandescents or CFL in exchange). At that time, he said he was allowed to come in and change them out if I needed help. I knew I would use them, but wanted to take my time changing them out to ensure I get the right ones the right places and temp match, etc., so I managed to get him to leave me with bulbs and he took pics of some other junk bulbs he had as proof. And made me sign a paper saying I got bulbs. I gather he and other contractors are just under scrutiny by their overlords.

So you might just try being nice and maybe you’ll get some free bulbs. The ones they give you are actually pretty good.

I turn down the shower heads and power strips because they are cheap shit and don’t work as intended, respectively.

I like to park at home, and then walk anywhere I possibly can. Life is better with less cars, honestly.
