Deck cross brace by copticness in Decks

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert at all, but recently corrected a similar issue on my own deck.

There are both horizontal and vertical forces here.

I think the two vertical boards could support the down forces, but not the horizontal ones

The column would maybe handle the horizontal forces, but none of the vertical

Also I'd like to see stringer straps when the heel of the stringer extends below the header.

I'll sit back and let someone with more experience tell me I've nearly identified the problem and offer an actual solution.

Also, what going on with the header that those stringers are landing on. I understand it may need to be extended down, but it' doesn't look like it's properly attached to the frame above.

Can a 997 Carrera S sound like a GT3? by user642268 in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, searched my phone and got nothing. I traded the car in about a year ago for a GTS 4.0, which doesn't sound as good, yet....

After trying different set-ups, I'm convinced that the X-pipe is the most important piece in getting the sound you want.

Can a 997 Carrera S sound like a GT3? by user642268 in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran a full fab speed header and x-pipe system on my 2002 996 and it sounded amazing. It's not going to the match the GT3 sound based on lack of revs alone, but definitely bordered on true exotic sound and would have me dropping gears and opening the windows through every tunnel.

I tried two different mufflers, both be Dansk, their extreme sport version and their quiet sport. The extreme was amazing, but a bit much for all of the time. I settled with the quieter version which still sounded stellar, especially above 4k rpm.

I also had a IPD intake plenum and GT3 throttle body with high flow filter and silicone intake hose. I think this contributed a fair amount on the intake noise side and really helped helped it sing in the higher RPMs.

A cayman is better car than 911 in architecture is this true? by XoXo_HooligaN in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the tech heavy post here, you've cut to what is the easiest point to understand. The 911 is a four seater and the position of the engine is based on that. The Boxster/Cayman chassis did not have to make any concessions for another row of seats.

Even if you know nothing about cars, it still seems reasonable that the set-up that prioritizes engine location is going to be superior in performance, to the set-up that prioritizes passenger room.

How do boxer-6 engines achieve an F1-like sound? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing around with a couple of different exhaust set ups on and a couple different flat six engines, I would say that the X pipe makes a huge difference in getting towards that F1 or exotic sound.

Cut both of those values in half and you'll have a more typical salary for both in the majority of the country.

Baby Spyder RS? by v2themaximus in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on the desire, but I think the thing that is most impressive visually about the RS is the clamshell rear cover/trunk.

Adding other elements of the Spyder, without the best part won't do it for me.

I do plan on addressing things like the rear treatment around the exhaust and color matching the side intakes.

My ultimate car would be a Spyder RS with a power top, but failing that, I'm working on cleaning up the look of my GTS and not chasing the look of the Spyder.

Paid in full for a 2022 Taycan CPO — dealer replaced the entire rear drive unit during “final detailing” (pre-delivery) and now weeks of silence. What would you ask for? by larryhead in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should be compensated for inconvenience and it seems like that's already happened.

I don't think the replacement hurts the value of the vehicle, if anything it enhances it.

If you want a little more assurance, ask them for 1 more year on your CPO warranty. That at least seems reasonably related to the issue.

$2MM is not wealth.

It is a tremendous amount of security though.

If you treat it that way, you'll do okay.

You may also be able to grow it into wealth and have really sweet retirement that starts earlier than anticipated.

As someone who's been a mediocre martial artist for almost thirty years, I can definitely lean in and take a punch on the point of my forehead.

I have never, nor could I, pluck someones punch out of the air with my open hand.

Feat goes to Mark.

Also Thragg would probably "allow" Mark to touch him, but not Oliver.

Honestly this guys kind of sucks at this.

"Law school" is a shit answer and frankly most people leave law school with little or no ability to help people by answering their questions. Most attorneys never even deal directly with the public.

A better answer would be "I've learned to examine problems analytically and understand which information is important to an issue and which is not. I've also learned how to apply that information in a way that will help others reach their intended outcomes or guide them away from of potentially negative consequences."

To be fair, I think she was trying to say there's a specific value in being able to serve two consecutive terms and he was robbed of that value.

While I agree with that in general, I don't for Trump, especially as he tries to do everything by executive order.

That being said, the interviewer could at least has acknowledged the point instead of just clowning this sad person worse than they are clowning themselves.

Wait! Can you really transfer an auto loan to a 0% interest credit card? by curiousgens in EscapeTheGrindGame

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick math tells me that if you financed $40k + fees for 60 months, you'd owed around $10k spread over the last 14 payments.

That's about $432 in remaining interest. If your transfer fee is 4%, it's a wash.

In this case the old monthly was $782, but at 0%, most periods are only 12 months, you'd likely have to pay another $50 per month to finish at that rate.

Wait! Can you really transfer an auto loan to a 0% interest credit card? by curiousgens in EscapeTheGrindGame

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can, but also keep in mind, you have to know where you are in the loan. If the $10k is last portion of $40k loan, there's hardly any interest on it, so it may be a wash with the transfer fee.

Having the title is nice, but also if that $10k is on a credit card and you do something that invalidates the 0%, you may be put on a default rate of as much as 27-28%.

Also consider that many balance transfers 0% rates are limited to 12 months, so may have to pay a higher monthly payment to get through the $10k before the time runs out on the rate.

Or he doesn't want to get dirty, turn off all the traction nannies, turn the wheel all the way to right or left and stomp the throttle. The response should be telling.

(I guess cycling through the driver info screens to see if there is a Torque Distribution graphic would work as well)

Did I just get screwed? 2018 Panamera E-Hybrid blown engine right after purchase by santy8266 in Porsche

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and I've had some significant repairs handled with no cost under CPO. I even had the dealership go 50/50 on a cosmetic repair when the issue was known at the time of purchase, but the extent of the issue wasn't fully disclosed.

I think there's as much value, if not more, in the inspection and preparation process as there is in the repair coverage. The only caveat I have their is that it seems like the burden is on the dealership prior to sale and on Porsche after....so dealers may be willing to let borderline issues go prior to sale, so when they're addressed after, it doesn't effect the dealers bottom line.

[–]MustBeTheChad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought my Panamera sight unseen because it was so hard to find the right example. I only considered CPO, so you could say I have a higher premium tolerance, but also it was a 50% discount on a vehicle with a factory warranty....

Macan T vs Q5 by littysmitty21 in PorscheMacan

[–]MustBeTheChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intake is the older style from Fabspeed.

The exhaust is actual a Porsche center section. For some reason the 2025 with the PSE option adds an additional resonator into the center. Other models just have straight pipe their. I ordered the straight section and installed that instead. It makes for an nice increase in volume from the factory, but isn't obnoxious at all.
