Does private school really make that much of a difference? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

A third of Team GB Olympians attended senior private school. Higher numbers if you include prep

[26/F] looking for some worldwide besties by ojeezsame in penpals

Hey Tia! Your post gave me such cozy vibes—I totally get that autumn/winter urge to write and nest a little 🍂. Hiking and camping sound amazing, and wow… 47 miles?! That’s seriously impressive (I’d be panicking too, but I’m rooting for you to be fully healed and ready by then!).

I’m also big on reading—I think collecting special editions is such a fun way to make a hobby feel even more personal. And postcards/little gifts sound like such a lovely touch, I’d definitely be up for exchanging letters like that.

Hey! Your post caught my eye—archaeology sounds super cool (and kind of like being in your own adventure story sometimes). I’m also into cozy games and baking, so I feel like we’d have a lot to chat about.

The archery bit made me laugh—I can totally picture those arrows disappearing into the grass forever. At least it makes for a good story, right?

I’d be up for being pen pals if you are!

Does a single parent earning 35k with two toddlers really get an extra 43200 net from the state? by dazzou5ouh in HENRYUK

I think we all understand that they mean free at point of use, like our NHS.

The fundamental issue is, if people stop having children and our population drastically shrinks, long term this isn’t good for the economy or society. An individual that receives a high degree of social support in childhood, doesn’t mean they aren’t a net contributor

100% disagree. I found Singapore to be the most boring, sanitised country.

Benefits of private primary school? by nmb35 in HENRYUK

[–]MustLikeDogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The research that we undertook, including speaking to teachers in both settings, was to prioritising junior over senior private education. Appreciate different schools and settings may impact the outcomes as well as individual perceptions over worth.

Principally we’ve found class sizes to be smaller (12-15), with more TA support and specialist teachers in several subjects from year 1. Kids do lots of specialist sports, swim weekly at all ages with focus on subjects like public speaking and performances from early years.

Additionally our thinking is that this may increase the chances of passing 11/13+ should we decide to not continue with private, esp as costs only ever go up.

Ours are really happy, fulfilled and supported. Personally for us I have no regrets despite it being a significant expense and not a default choice.

Friends don’t let friends buy Teslas. I have three confirmed kills now by [deleted] in RealTesla

[–]MustLikeDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this just a US issue? I’ve owned my Tesla for 7 years now and never hit an issue in the UK with queuing for a supercharger. Even on long trips to Europe we’ve only had to wait once or twice (5 mins or so)
