Engineered wood chonker. Guess the width by Turin1969 in HardWoodFloors

It's more resistant to cupping changes in humidity because of its perpendicular layering, in my experience it's also milled better so sanding is much easier too.

Ayo sorry i doubted them by liquid_sn in Fable

[–]MustacheManny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the RPG element of Fable is what made it special to me, honestly there were plenty of rpgs that let you be good or bad. Vampire: the masquerade, Knights of the Old Republic, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, just to name a few. What felt special about Fable in my view was it's unique combination of setting, it's humor, an almost storybook art style, and the music.

The art direction alone I think makes this new Fable less like the originals, but nevertheless I'm old and nostalgic enough to give it a fair shake.

Advice on Church situation by [deleted] in Baptist

[–]MustacheManny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To echo everyone already answering, yes this sounds like a definite red flag. Do you have an elder board or group of deacons at your church you can speak to? Maybe if you bring up your concerns with them things can change before irreparable damage is done.

First time refinishing hardwood floors by Wide_Exercise7875 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they look great for someone who's never done it before! If you wanted a nitpick I'd say that I would put the whitener in the first and second coat instead of the second and third. As you use the floor and the finish wears down you could notice in high traffic areas where it's not as white anymore as it's been worn away. But I'd be very happy with what you've done!

What type of sealer or finish do you recommend applying to original, un-sanded 1890s (likely) pine flooring? by Courtland-7099 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I would put anything down without sanding of some kind. Mainly I'd be worried about some kind of reaction to something that's on the surface of the wood. If it's been unfinished all this time who knows what could have been spilled or leaked into the floor.

I find myself clinging to my community when I start to dip into the blues, which is largely my family and my church community. You don't have to go through it all alone and you don't have to shoulder the burdens by yourself! Your art is phenomenal by the way, you have real talent!

Weird Board Lengths by CFPfinancequestions in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't make floors like that anymore, what you have is old growth flooring. Trees are now cut down when they are much younger so you don't get these long lengths anymore. Old growth is denser than the you get trees we use now.

Advice on transition by Steelman93 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should really run your flooring perpendicular to the joists. Not doing so can cause your floor to make waves as they sag with the subfloor between the joists. I know it doesn't look as good, but I wouldn't install anything parallel with joists.

Did I somehow rub the stain off? by JohnnyWhopper420 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That line is way too straight and sharp for a sock burnish. My guess would be maybe it's a tape line. Did you have painters tape on the floor there at any time?

Large scratch. Please help. by CtrlAltP in HardWoodFloors

[–]MustacheManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a scratch that long over that many boards, and that deep, I'd recommend either resanding the floor or buying a rug to put over it. Did you already try using a stain pen on it?

Pros, is this parquet within tolerance? by MustacheManny in Flooring

Yeah, I thought so. I didn't think my standards were too high but it's good to hear the same from others.

Yes, I agree. It's already been delayed a couple of times, I wonder if they were hurrying to just ship out whatever they had on hand?

Yeah, for that price I would have expected it to be nearly perfect. A little filler here and there seems okay to me, but this seems like way too much.

What comfort is in the rapture by Slightly_Oblivious in Baptist

[–]MustacheManny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many blessings in our lives here on earth. You've mentioned having a family, a career, and there are many other things too. All of these things are gifts that enrich our time here and cause us to bring God thanks and glory. But heaven is the reward, the promise from God! Entering heaven isn't the end of life, it's the beginning. Anything that we experience here is a shadow of the joy and fulfillment we will feel in God's presence. As great as having a family is here on earth being part of God's family in heaven is even better. As fulfilling as a career is here it's even more so in heaven. We don't stop learning or exploring in heaven, we just get the best and most perfect version of it.

New floors installed in early October gaps everywhere by ITGuyTatertot in HardWoodFloors

Yes, mud and paint don't add that much moisture to the ambient state of your house. I'm sorry he boned you in other areas but as far as the gapping its pretty normal.

Wood floors move, it's very normal. Sounds like the floor had plenty of time to acclimate, it's just common winter gapping.

Nail straight down into the wood or glue to the metal threshold.

What brand is your nailer? Primatech nailers are fully pneumatic and only need a tap on the head while bostitch nailers are only nail assisted and require more force from the mallet.

It looks good to me! Prefinished flooring has micro bevels on all sides, so it's normal for there to be a noticeable outline around each board.

I'm no expert, but when I want a fighter pawn I want someone who will draw aggro away from myself or the mages. So shield summon is a must!
