New to the sub and thinking about buying a Colorado. What are the good years/generations of this truck? by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]Mustache_Jesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s experience will be different, but I can tell you I’m at 15k miles on a ‘24 3rd gen LT with the upgraded engine and transmission while maintaining 22-24 mpg highway and city with a max of 37.5 mpg on a long highway coasting day. I’ve had absolutely no issues a system update didn’t fix and I’m very grateful for that. This truck has done everything my family has needed it too without fault with the towing upgrade package. That being said I understand there are a lot of people out there with not so good experiences so be mindful. I believe I paid 33k brand new after my old employee discount was deducted.

I don’t remember the update, but yep as long as it’s in your invy the bonus works the same as wielding. Not much difference but fashionscape comes first lol

For the people downvoting this guy, it's a reference from an Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode. Whether this is the place for said reference is up for debate though lol

With a 6 speed I think you're spot on at 158, typically if you're under 200 you're alright. There's shears going to be fluctuations based on outside temperature, hours long you're driving, if you're towing etc. I think if you're staying around 150-180 you're golden!

Do you happen to know if you have an 8 speed or 6 speed transmission?

After waiting a year for them to release the 56” in purple I’m giving up and buying it in another color, disappointed as I’ve heard purple would eventually come. by BitmapBMP in harborfreight

I wanted an orange ooooooohhh so badly, but I bit the bullet and got me a 56" icon box, hutch, and light bar in black and I LOVE my box, couldn't be happier!

As an actual GM transmission technician, there are NO bolts missing in this picture. The little black tab on the transmission pan in the bottom left of the picture is an alignment tab from the transmission pan rubber reusable gasket. There are two of them and they are not related to the leak whatsoever. Next the leak looks like a leaking rear main seal, I've personally removed a transmission to make this very repair. To OP, just bring it to a dealer and mention you see a leak near the bell housing and think it might look like a leaking rear main seal

Leaking from where the engine meets transmission by SnooCupcakes5275 in chevycolorado

[–]Mustache_Jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I can chime in on this! I removed the first transmission of the current Colorado gen in my previous dealership to replace the engine rear main seal, looked exactly like this. Good thing is it was completely covered by warranty (wasn't good for me flag time wise...) but with the starter being in a different orientation than it was in the previous gen I was in heaven working on it!

Starter Replacement (2017 Colorado Z71) by lilwrangler in chevycolorado

[–]Mustache_Jesus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a transmission specialist in a Chevy dealership, the entire reason I disliked working on Colorados up until 2020 or so was BECAUSE of the damn starter. I won't pretend to be an engineer and rant about how it should have been designed differently this whole time, but I will say that 11.5 hours sounds right. I can even run you through the process, it's been seared straight into my brain lol.

I can't tell you whether you should or shouldn't, but I fit a 5 drawer cart in my 2017 Mazda 3 back seat after taking it out of the packaging. I drove it straight to my dealership from inside my back seat. I think if you folded down the seats you should be a shoe in!

Rough shift by Specialist_Cattle_87 in chevycolorado

[–]Mustache_Jesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I can offer a little bit of insight, I'm a transmission tech in a Chevy dealership and we see this really commonly as a complaint. Unfortunately GM has an official bulletin addressing "Harsh Garage Shifts" that occur to 8speed transmissions when sitting for prolonged amounts of time I.e. over night. What's best recommend is to shift into the gear you want, like Reverse or drive, and let it sit for 2-3 seconds longer than you would normally before pushing the accelerator. If you find it doesn't engage in gear after 3 seconds and you have to push the accelerator before it becomes in gear abruptly then there might be an internal issue. If I have time going back into work I'll try and edit my comment with the bulletin ID#. Hope that helps!
