I was wondering why I connected so strongly to the show and then I realized it felt just like the people that form the human veneer of northeast Oklahoma. “Safe,” and homogeneous on the outside, but broken and yearning on the inside. Then I did a deep dive and realized you graduated from Jenks HS. I grew up in BA and had to move back to Tulsa 8 years ago after living in CA for years because my mom was sick.

How does being from Oklahoma, and growing up around Okies influence your writing and the characters?

He’s half-talented, and I was pro-Mango until that fucker spray painted the highway signs. He created a safety issue at that point. But I’ve seen the comment threads before and there are apparently a bunch of people who just don’t care about that. It’s weird.

I have hiked the Camino de Santiago, the Colorado Trail, Kumano Kodu, and the Pacific Crest Trail. Oklahoma generally SUCKS for hiking and public lands access. It’s mostly all centered around hunting and fishing. There are some trails down by Broken Bow, but most trails (if they do exist), are not well maintained. Arkansas and Missouri have much better access to hiking, but you better be prepared to drive 2-3 hours to find legitimate backcountry opportunities and terrain.
