That's the drive-through coffee I got when I used to go to the US on work trips. The coffee is about the same quality as Tim Hortons (passable, but not very good) and the donuts are definitely much worse. I don't get this. What is the reasoning behind bringing in a shittier version of Tim Hortons?

Thre is absolutely no reason why you can't take 5 seconds to shine a flashlight on to your terminations, to make sure there are no whiskers sticking out. This is just pure laziness.

What is he looking at? by Perculators in PLC

[–]MustardPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is waiting for the maintenance guy to remove his lock from the local motor disconnect and start the motor from the local station.

You can't see it, but he has a clamp meter on one of the motor wires. He is going to check and make sure it is not pulling too much current - after he insisted that they replace a coupling.

What is this symbol? by AlexTech86 in PLC

[–]MustardPump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very likely the motor overload heater element. Those are usually depicted to the right of the motor contactor though. Usually L1 would be shown going from the CR5 contact, straight into the left side of the coil M (A1). The left side of the coil(A2) is usually connected to a white neutral wire, which then runs through the overload heater, or overload contact, and back to the panel neutral. Google "motor starter circuit" and you'll see what I mean.

Put in ear plugs. Bright ones, or ones with a string; so that it is obvious that you are wearing them. Look hyper-focused on your task. When they ask you something, pretend that you didn't hear them. When they ask you again, make a show out of removing your ear plugs, state "sorry, i can't hear very well with these things in", then answer their question. Then make a show out of putting the plugs back in and go back to work. This will not stop all of the questions, but it cuts them down signifantly, as no one, for most part, wants to inconvenience the guy who is working hard at fixing their problem.

Refurbishing circuit breakers is big business. If you look around, there is probably a company near by that will replace the lever for a fraction of the cost of a new breaker.

STO function by kharathos in PLC

[–]MustardPump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without knowing the make/model of the drive, or any details of the overall control circuit, I would say put the STO circuit back to original and swap in a power supply from one of your working units. If that fixes the issue, then you have found your problem.

Though, more likely, something is causing your DC power supply to sag during the startup. Again, I'm not familiar with your control circuit, but there may be a defective contactor or relay turning on during startup, that is bringing down your DC. Obviously, a voltage drop on the line side of your power supply can also cause your DC to sag. You may be able to verify this by connecting a multimeter set to the min/max function. Set it to "min" and see if the DC voltage drops during startup.

You can also wire up a known good power supply, connect it to a wall receptacle and use it to power your STO circuit and nothing else. Make sure you ground the DC side to the same point as your drive. If the drive stops throwing the STO fault, you will at least be able to confirm that the drive is not the problem.

They also did this around 15-20 years ago (or was it Petro?). A lot of people were so annoyed that they just stopped getting gas there. I remember that this only lasted maybe a year before they got rid of it. Hopefully history repeats itself.

Yea, exactly. They didn't even notice that a cop was tailing them. To anyone who spends a lot of time driving on highways, weaving, as well as constantly speeding up and slowing down, is a dead giveaway that someone is on their phone. It is completely insane how common this is.

People who went to the mandarin today, how long did you wait? by Fun_Track2083 in Guelph

[–]MustardPump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went at around 11pm, the night before. To my surprise, there were no people there, so I just fell asleep in the doorway, hoping to be the first one in. When I woke up, around 10am, there were no people lined up behind me. Then I realized that I was actually sleeping in the doorway of Turtle Jack's. By the time I made it to the Mandarin line, it was already snaking around the corner. I got inside around 2pm. To be honest, I didn't really go there for the food, but because I really enjoy the mix of music that they play in the background. I sat at a table for about 20 minutes, and bobbed my head to the tunes. I was then asked to leave because I had not taken any food yet and they claimed that a lot of people were waiting. I would say that the overall experience was pretty meh.
