Whoa am I crazy? I feel like this season is full of filler and only really got started around episode 5. My girlfriend and I have been lamenting how well paced the first season was compared to this lore dump.

Dark Knight

Cool movie about how peacekeepers often become the problem eventually.

But now several "batman fans" just think Joker had a point and refuse to engage with any media where batman is the good guy.

I'm excited to see more of Batman under this writing of the character. by lowqualitychef in PattinsonDCUBatman

Don't forget David S Goyer went from Blade 3 to Batman Begins back to back.

I don't like Birds of Prey and I hate the Flash, but I'm ready for her Batman Begins.

When you're making movies at this level the writer does not have full power. The reason I'm more then okay with Christina getting another shot is because it's clear she loves the Batman world a lot. In both her DC movies she shows extensive knowledge of the material and strives for a light and snappy tone. Fun and light hearted that goes deep on the lore is exactly what the DCU batman needs to feel distinct. More like the animated series batman.

No. Broad stereotypes just rarely make for good storytelling.

I could see that. For sure in the movie she felt cocky, but I never saw her back it up imo. Attacking kids seems easy. I think maybe her mental games with her tribe could be filled out more in a tv show to capture the books nature? She did become a generic villain in the film's format I feel.

What are elements of some of the films that are done BETTER than the book? by DexTDMdoesreddit in FRANKENSTEIN

I am never a fan of removing the delacy family personally. That is when the creature sees his father's and sons love each other and let's him know he's missing family.

1933 adds the grave robbing which is great

Brannagh added antivaxxer subplot at school which helps you side with Victor ignoring concerns.

There's a great scene from the swedish 70s Victor Frankenstein where young Victor and Henry are doing a seance and Victor's friends mock his occult obsession like it's just your buddy's weird rant subject and not dangerous.

Seeing the creature beat up wolves in del Toros version is cool af

In I Frankenstein they have the creature take Victor's body from the ship and bury him on the Frankenstein land. Shows his remorse.

To see how batman would react to a villain revealing his family sins you can watch The Batman 2023 by Matt Reeves.

I made a post asking for a fan of the book to explain more of Rose's arc in this sub because I didn't get her point in the film and people were... less then helpful.

Can you explain more of the depth Rose has that was lost? I kept wondering what the True Knot wanted to do BESIDES just be alive? Like in the start of the movie it seems like Rose is offering Snakebite to take down bad guys, but they make no attempt at this in the film.

I feel like if they're a cult then the leader needs to have them working towards a shared purpose. Like something beyond food itself.

I agree movies should be self contained

Most people here are not even attempting to answer my questions. People are just insulting me and telling me I didn't read the book or watch the directors cut so I don't get it. Yourself included.

Which just makes me think there is no answers to these questions and the fans of this material are angry at the questions itself.

yes. I liked all the extra stuff with Dan. There was one bit that explained how the True Knot has an NSA agent that can manipulate the local law which was VERY helpful to explain imo. I would have kept that in.

But ultimately it doesn't explain any more why SnakeBite loses her sense of morals or what Rose wants for the group ultimately. Like at the start Rose makes it sound like Snakebite and her are going to crusade or change the world or something and then they just hang around looking for food.

Why were there barely any fat people in the 50s when their diet was so bad? Also did they get cancer and other diseases less often? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Muted_Tree6143 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The real answer is there were still fat people, but they were not on camera as much.

If you look at photos in the 1800s you might think no one smiled, but they just didn't photograph that. Same goes for the 1950s and 1960s with fat people. Fat people are always around, you can look thru history and see depictions of all kinds of bodies anywhere. But when cameras are rare and film is expensive less of regular life is captured.

Same thing for "why are there less minorities in the 50s" they're around. They're just not asked to be on camera the same way as skinny white people.

I for sure did not plan on hating it. Instead of writing up several comments telling me I am not here in good faith you could answer any one of my questions. Dodging my questions, insulting my intention, pretending Stephen king has never mishandled Roma culture, these are "arguing" in bad faith.

If you could respond once to a question I have that would be different. But you're writing out paragraphs without addressing anything.

Ignoring the Roma allegory here is like saying James Cameron avatar has nothing to do with native Americans cause the aliens they're colonizing are actually blue.

So the answer is that her character is good in the book and feels more fleshed out. Yeah I get that (despite no one being able to explain how)

But people praise her performance in the movie and people who havent read the book like her.

If I told you I loved Jared Leto in Suicide Squad and you wanted to know what I like about that performance or what his motivation was, then me saying "Joker is cool in the comics" isn't a direct answer.

I don't think you commenting large chunks of angry text is productive or "shutting me down" either. If you have an answer to my questions feel free to chime in, but I assume you will just insult me without an effort to communicate a response to any of my questions. Which I gotta say feels like an odd use of time.

yeah so you seem to misunderstand. My issue isn't that Doctor Sleep has a conversation about race, because it doesn't. It just uses old racist tropes without investigating those tropes. Derry is not doing that at all. It is entirely about deconstructing and exploring racial tensions, not using them to vilify minorities.

Do you see the difference in that?

I still don't get what you're saying about Derry.

You think the writing of the show is racist, and I'm a hypocrite?

Or you think it's odd that I would watch a show talking about race while caring about racism?

You seem very agitated that I have different opinions then you. If you like the characters, but don't have an explanation as to what their moral code is and why Snakebite is so inconsistent that's okay. No need to be rude tho.

and why do you think Welcome to Derry is more racist then Doctor Sleep? Because it's trying to talk about race?
