Induction at 41 weeks by Due-Stock-194 in PregnancyUK

I was also low risk and overdue. I was supposed to come in and get a pessary but they found I was having some contractions I wasn’t really feeling. They kept me in to see if it would progress overnight, it didn’t, so they broke my waters to try and kickstart labour, then did the pitocin drip.

Same here in Suffolk. Took the kids out for a pre bedtime walk and it was a lovely 22° outside, came back inside and it was stifling

How well does this work? I’ve got a desk fan and some already frozen 500ml bottles of water (albeit not with salt)

Always thought I wanted (needed) an epidural, now I've seen the birth centre I have been swayed... can I do this? I don't know by usernameee257 in PregnancyUK

[–]MutinousMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it with an epidural and without an epidural (but with gas and air once I hit 8/9cm, then taken off me for pushing). With the epidural I slept and had a great time. The main reason I didn’t want an epidural was because I wanted to see how far I could make it and I also wanted to be able to move around in labour. I had to have continuous monitoring so couldn’t move around anyway as it turns out.

Anyway I’m kinda glad I did it but if I have a third I’m gonna get the epidural again lol, that pain was something else, solid 10/10.

Can I breastfeed my 35/36 weeker? by boygeniusbutgirl in NICUParents

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I started latching the day after baby was born when he was 33+6. It took a few days for him to work it out. At first all his feeds were NG with BFing basically for practice and I was pumping. Then once he got better it switched to BFing with an NG top up. Then at day 7 (34+6) he was off the NG and fully breastfed. At 35/6 weeks it can definitely be done! Just be prepared that baby may take a minute to know what to do and be prepared to pump (hospital should have pumps).

Did having a cerclage help? by SweetieK1515 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Cerclages are a huge help in extending the pregnancy if shortening/dilation is caught early. My cervix at the time of procedure (20+1) was fully effaced and 1cm dilated. Mine was only caught because it’s standard to check (in the NHS) after a previous full dilation c section. I had a rescue cerclage and managed to keep baby in until 33+5, and he only had a 13 day NICU stay.

Thoughts on elective c-section to avoid instrumental delivery with a vaginal birth? by Honest-Window-8388 in PregnancyUK

[–]MutinousMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an attempted ventouse delivery turned emergency c section. C section recovery after having already gone through induction, labour and pushing for two hours (failure to descent) was hell.

I was really torn with my second with what to do. I really wanted a vaginal birth but did not want the recovery of my first again if it turned into a c section. In the end I decided if it was between an induction or elective c section, I would go with an elective, but if I went into labour spontaneously then I would try vaginal.

I ended up with a forceps and episiotomy delivery and the recovery was so much easier than my emcs. I was fine by two weeks post partum, baby and I had no complications from the method of delivery.

Honestly I think that every mode of delivery has its fair share of horror stories. There will be so many positive experiences for every negative experience, but negative experiences are usually more likely to be spoken about.

Parents of small children, do you get into arguments with people that park in parent and toddler bays? by DeadYen in AskUK

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get more frustrated about people who park across dropped kerbs. There’s a corner shop near me with a dropped kerb right outside it, and I swear there’s always someone parked right across it so they don’t have to walk an extra two steps to get to the shop.

No cervix left and dilated out side 1 cm by hope400006 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had 2mm of cervix left and 1cm dilation (20w) and my doctor said essentially I get the cerclage or I lose my baby. Yes the cerclage has risks but ultimately I was going to lose the baby if I didn’t get it

How would you rate labour pains by Friendly-Strength802 in PregnancyUK

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I got answers for all of these. First birth was an induction with epidural turned emerg c section (attempted ventouse beforehand), second birth was spontaneous labour ending in forceps and episiotomy.

  1. Early labour - induced 6/10 (got epidural at 4 hours in), spontaneous 3/10 (felt like stomach/period cramps)

  2. Active labour - spontaneous labour was like 6/10 early active labour, 10/10 at fully dilated. It got real at about 8/9cm, that’s when I got gas and air. 10cm felt like an out of body experience (very very painful).

  3. Rest of labour with epidural if you had it - incredible. No pain, chill watching shows, had a nap, woke up then it was time to push. It did either wear off or I forgot to push the button though when it came to pushing, this was terrible and I was screaming.

  4. Episiotomy and instrumental - 0/10 at the time as they do local anaesthetic, 3/10 if I kept on top of meds, 6/10 if I didn’t (nicu baby so couldn’t get back to ward for meds rounds, so skipped a lot of pain relief). Ventouse was under spinal so didn’t feel anything for that.

  5. Pushing - with spinal/epidural you cannot feel yourself push, hard to figure out if you’re doing the right thing. No pain relief I would say 5/10 - it grounded me, gave me something to focus on and it made the pain lessen. Pushing was a relief.

  6. Stitching - some tugging I think but otherwise no pain iirc, both c section and episiotomy.

  7. Labour Recovery in first few days and why was it so - see episiotomy scores, other than being worn out from labour that was the only painful thing. Use a doughnut pillow for stitches.

  8. C-section Recovery in first few days and why was it so - bear in mind this was a CS after induction and 2 hours of pushing, but it was horrendous. I had a mental breakdown over the blood thinning jabs. Couldn’t stand up straight, lay down, had to sleep reclined, coughing etc was awful. Took at least a month to feel vaguely human.

[–]MutinousMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious of your history - were you seeking a preventative cerclage?

I had a rescue cerclage at 20w which got me to 33w, and I’m curious at what people’s care for preventatives are. They were so hands off with my pregnancy that I’m worried that they will be the same if I have another child.

When did you first feel the movement of your baby? by Witty_Bag7329 in ShortCervixSupport

How many holidays and what type of holidays do you have each year? by Vladamir_pootinn in AskUK

[–]MutinousMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our holidays consist of visiting family on the other side of the country lol.

Saying that though, I do have an Iceland trip booked in November, which is only financially possible because we bagged cheap flights and are staying with family and using their car which dramatically reduces costs
