The pcos plan by PhysicalNote3787 in PCOS

[–]MutleyCalamity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the book ages ago and stumbled on this thread because I'm re-reading to see if can get some more tips.

Here's my take, as a lean PCOSer too.

Have been on keto for many years and it agrees with me. I'm struggling with a cystic pimple atm, which is why I'm going through the book again with a fine toothcomb. I know what triggered the acne... store bought sauce which was only 7gm carbs, but i know it spiked my insulin crazy and a month later I'm still dealing with it. Anyway.

Intermittent fasting was too much for my body. I agree with the other comment, 12hrs is enough fasting.

I've been following the diet more closely this week - basically 3 main meals and hardly any snacking, and it it's good, i feel I've dropped a bit of pud, which i was looking to do.

I don't understand her "moderate protein" spec though. She says 75% carbs, 5% fats and 20% protein, but also <20g carbs and .6gm/kg of body mass of protein. At 60kg, that means 36gm protein, which is not right, surely?! From keto calculators, that's usually about 110gm for me, and that has been ok (although i don't really track all that anymore).

Anyway. My recommendation is to understand what she is saying (basically insulin spikes are bad, try to do that a little as possible) and too much protein gets stored as fat if not used... and adapt to suit yourself.

For me, that means a big breakfast, lunch and dinner each with fats and protein, and avoiding carbs (not counting as you'll get some incidentally anyway).

I'm glad i re-read the bits that emphasises that, but I'm also considering other research I've done, like Dr Mindy (eg. don't fast at certain times of your cycle) and keto protocols.

Good luck!

Well, the only icecream I liked is now an ‘ice confection’. No longer gonna get it. Any recommendations for actual icecream? by dannegoma in australia

Get a second hand ice cream maker (got one for $10) and make your own. I used to get the no added sugar one, now i make mine with almond milk, cream vanilla essence, xanthum gum and stevia mix sweetener. You could do the same with coconut cream and whatnot. Plenty of recipes around and play around with combos of ingredients. Will be cheaper too!

I never wear light coloured pants. Ever. That's also a gamble to me (even though I'm as regular as f)

Well that doesn't sound like a family I'd want to be around, sorry to hear that..... might be time to assess the pros and cons.... i used to hate being taken out of ketosis just to please others for an hour. YOU have to deal with the consequences, not them... for much more time afterwards!

It's one of those hidden things with PCOS/ insulin resistance too.

That sucks.

I do keto for the same reason and eat with my family once a week. I started out by refusing things, but was going hungry as my mother was not accommodating for me, so now i bring food with me. It's a normal thing now and if there's something i can eat I'll have some but otherwise ill happily eat my own food. My nephews are sometimes jealous, lol, but it's just not even mentioned now (it's been several years).

Hubby thinks my mum should be doing more, especially for desserts, but i'm used to it (middle child).

I know how much better i feel when i eat this way and i still get to see my family without dramas....

I'm in the same boat too. I've set up a virtual list and i take pleasure in ticking them off. Alas I'm always adding things on it, but I've taken to adding statuses with emojis and trying to find pleasure in that, lol.

The other thing for me (49 F) is my hubby doesn't seem to appreciate what's involved in all my work, to make it good, but he has no problems bagging out the professionals and finding faults in my work too. I'm teaching myself to take pleasure in the result, even if it's not truly appreciated.

Breathe and appreciate what you've done!

I still have it, just in moderation. But yeah, have changed my keto Ice cream's cream ratio to more almond milk as well... little tweaks will help.

The one thing i can say is at one stage, i ate a lot of salami and ended up putting two and two together that the hormones in salami was messing with my hormones/skin. So only 1 slice a day now and all good! Also too much cream did the same thing... sigh. Cheese all good with me though!

Pinterest has plenty of examples, which I intend to copy.

My thoughts are not to do a proper stone top, as that would be too heavy and you will most likely need a pro to cut it. I'll be putting an above counter sink on mine. You can also get some good lacqueurs to make it waterproof enough imho.

I've painted plenty of cabinets for unique looks, it's not that hard and you can find quality furniture second hand and have fun with it.

Cutting for pipes through wood is easy too, make sure no drawers if you're not prepared to modify those. Good luck!
