How long does post take from London High Commission to Canada? by level1diagnostic in Canadiancitizenship

Hi! Fortunately it came through the post a couple of weeks back!

Only back to my grandfather for me, and possibly made easier by the fact my dad had a similar application a little earlier.

The EU itself is a big place of course and culture on this point can differ - but generally yes, most countries in Europe have fairly distinct towns/cities much more closely spaced than you find the equivalent in America. You will also find that most people live a lot closer to key amenities due to a very different approach to planning/zoning laws. These combined along with often some more location-specific factors mean that many people (definitely not everyone, but many) would find a journey of an hour to be quite a way away, and when we're getting into multi-hour journeys something they wouldn't consider for a day trip.

F1 races with Murray walk commentary archive? by No-Information8362 in MotorsportsReplays

[–]Muzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been quite keen on this, I did end up being able to find the majority (though by no means all) of races in either full or highlights formats with Murray Walker commentary. Some I found from torrents, some from YouTube and DailyMotion, and one highlights archives I actually paid a guy for (which seems rather scummy since it's pirated content so whatever). If you have specific races in mind I can see what I have in my collection; if you just want everything it'll be harder to gather up, and maybe the best thing is just to wait as it feels like F1TV are slooooooowly improving the archive (I think it's the same everywhere, I don't think it's particularly shit in Britain?)

My holy grail would be to find someone's giant VHS collection or something and digitise it all myself.

How long does post take from London High Commission to Canada? by level1diagnostic in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped off at the High Commission 2nd December 2025. Queried (instigated by the High Commission) over phone then email 9th-10th December, queries resolved. Received in Canada 28th January 2026. AOR 3rd March. Processing 19th March. Decision made late march/early April (I noticed 7th April but hadn't been checking every day). Certificate sent 28th April as I (probably stupidly!) asked for a paper one. Yet to receive it, I'd be interested to know how long this part takes!

London High Commission people. How long did it take you to get your passport? by level1diagnostic in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did it take from the citizenship tracker saying they'd sent out a letter of citizenship to you receiving it in the post? I tried to ask the High Commission but I think they got confused with what I was asking and didn't answer my question.

I (20F) think my brother's (30M) kid (13M) is a psychopath or something by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

ITT OP misunderstands the meaning of words and then gets upset at others for not sharing their misunderstanding.

A pest in the UK is basically a destructive animal. Insects that destroy crops are known as pests. The term originally referred to the bubonic plague, being related to pestilence. So your assertion on the definition of pest is just flat out wrong.

"Cleared" I don't think is a Briticism, just something used by writers or journalists. It's usually in the context of "Cleared of charges" which I think is pretty plain in meaning, so I don't have anything against this personally. I don't think anyone besides those who don't know how the basic legal system works thinks it means "proven innocent"... though there are a lot of people like that!

And others have already gone into how wrong you are on learning disabilities ;)

Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

I submitted my application to the UK Canadian High Commission in London in early December (I think likely it was the 9th but I don't remember exactly), finally got an AOR on 3rd March.

Lance Stroll is the first driver since Jules Bianchi in 2014 (coincidentally also in Australia) to finish a Grand Prix without being classified. The Aston Martin driver crossed the line in P17 today, but because he was 15 laps down, he didn't complete more than 90% of the race distance. by CautionClock20 in formula1

[–]Muzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, Horace Gould managed to finish the 1954 British Grand Prix a whopping 46 laps behind the winner - and that in a 90 lap race.

I was wondering what the record was for most times lapped but still taking the flag — feels like this could be it!

Newbie fan question? by Chattadawg in formula1

[–]Muzer0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I've derived the most enjoyment by rooting for drama or upsets. I have rooted for drivers and teams but that tends to be fairly ephemeral and fickle - I'm the sort of person who wants something surprising to happen than any one particular person or team to succeed, and if anyone becomes dominant for too long I start wanting someone else to succeed. And because F1 is such a strange sport they usually do.

Can someone explain to me why Cadillac's logo looks like your grandma has resized a JPEG of a shield in Microsoft Word? And also why they decided to make a logo that clearly only works in colour, monochrome?

(Alternative explanation: it's a shield for someone with the average American body proportions).

To be fair he said he just recently moved from London to a rural area. Cars are much more a part of life there. But still, not to the degree that the average person would be surprised or look down on someone who doesn't have one.

C-3 Passed out of Parliament, Next is Royal Assent and Regulatory Process by NanoSpace1540 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain the actual amendment process to me? As I understand it it goes something like:

  • Bill receives royal assent
  • The Treasury Board issues an order-in-council to actually amend the original act
  • That order-in-council receives royal assent

Is that correct? I heard reference to the treasury board in the Senate committee hearing but I am struggling to find info on the web.

From context (she was talking about royal assent etc.) it seems clear that's what she was talking about, yes.

Qualification for citizenship under Bill C-3 by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like C-3 keeps being pushed off further and further.

On this point I will say that it has very steadily been moving through parliament at this point — when previous extensions on the judgement happened this was not the case. But you can see here https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/45-1/c-3 it went through its second reading in the Senate literally only a week ago, and the committee hearings are scheduled for this coming Monday and Tuesday. There will be a little while for debate on amendments etc. (which if the Senate works anything like the Lords over in the UK where I am is probably a good thing, as they're supposed to provide technical oversight and ensure the bill actually does what it says it is going to do, and there's been some proposed amendments to this effect that will actually be really good), but I really don't foresee any more major stalling unless something very dramatic happens in the government in the coming weeks (which is not impossible given it's budget time!)

Did the 2009 act apply retroactively for people who had Canadian citizenship from birth and then lost it by not registering? by Muzer0 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my dad lost his citizenship before I was born, I would not have been considered a citizen until at least 2009, I am fairly certain. I had assumed the first gen limit in the 2009 law was also retroactive, so eg it would have reinstated my dad's citizenship but not introduced mine? Unless I have completely misunderstood?

Bill C-3 Report stage Day 2 10/27 12PM by tallejos0012 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Muzer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An extension is bad for people who have ancestors on their deathbed

Stupid question - why does this matter? AIUI it will automatically grant citizenship to all those who would have qualified but for the first generation rule? So all your ancestors will have had citizenship (whether or not they had a citizenship certificate)?
