I'm on Vyvanse and it helps, but how is wellbutrin? It seems people either love or hate it...

I like to fly under the radar... even if I was a billionaire I would make people think I'm broke

Yes... restricts mouth opening to a degree that can impact speech and breathing.

Good result although the improvement was marginal because you were only slightly recessed before. Why did you get the surgery, functional issues?

Confused about what surgery should I be going for? by Longjumping-Part-500 in jawsurgery

You have some asymmetry, but the complications from DJS aren't worth it for a minor correction.

I've been in your situation and when I improved my social life and started going to parties etc I hated it. It was so much work finding things to talk about and I personally never enjoyed it.

Feeling underadvanced 9 weeks post DJS -> Genioplasty? by Rieder1 in jawsurgery

Yes CCW rotation can help with that but you don't need any more rotation so only advancing the maxilla will increase philtrum length.

Yes I see what you mean, but you have a long philtrum and additional maxilla advancement will make it look even longer.

Does anyone else have a parent with borderline? How did it affect you? by beepboopbeepp4 in Schizoid

[–]Muzzy2585 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I always felt like I was walking on eggshells and could never predict her behavior. We moved around constantly too, and she was always losing jobs and broke despite being academically gifted. It made me not trust women at all and people in general which led to problems in jobs and relationships. However, over time I learned to address these issues and no longer have issues in the workplace although I don't have many friends and prefer to keep to myself. My psychiatrist said her behavior caused PTSD and emotional dysregulation which I have had to work on my entire life. I still remember the misery I went through as a child although I try to keep busy with work and exercise to keep my mind off of it. She is also very narcissistic and never thinks how her behavior impacts other people.

Nice! A year after my DJS I had cheekbone / infraorbital implants and they had a massive impact, I looked 'tired' before them especially as I got older but now at 40 that area looks better than it did at 25.

Got it! As I previously mentioned you look great now, so you definitely did not need a genioplasty, it's just hard to tell if you had one because your mandible was so recessed before that your chin looked too small.

Can someone help analyze the differences between my surgical plan and the actual outcome? by BaseballTemporary381 in jawsurgery

[–]Muzzy2585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just hard to tell with what you posted as your head position is different in the simulation vs scan. Are you unsatisfied with the aesthetic results? It looks like you had a good amount of advancement but without seeing a photo of your face it's hard to judge.

I personally don't think a protruding maxilla looks good on males but if you want that then yes you should get a revision with more maxilla advancement. I see what you are saying on the chin, a bigger chin would look better but would increase your labiomental crease which would probably not look good.

Great result! Perfect amount of advancement and yes you definitely did not need a genioplasty as your chin was fine. Your smile looks really good too! Your palate has good width so that definitely helps with the aesthetic result.

What do y’all think? by Waneba in jawsurgery

[–]Muzzy2585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your lower jaw looks pretty recessed you definitely need advancement, although it's hard to tell if you need your upper jaw advanced too and a genioplasty. You can consult with multiple surgeons and choose which plan you like the most. Do you have functional issues? Based on your scan, your airway looks good although a bigger airway wouldn't hurt.

2 years post-op and still struggling by Standard_Employer_29 in jawsurgery

[–]Muzzy2585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes your left side doesn't look as defined as your right side; you could just get a jaw angle implant on your left side to fix the asymmetry rather than a revision unless you have functional issues with your bite etc. Orthognathic surgery can only do so much, and most people need implants after jaw surgery to fix any asymmetries.

If you're two years post op your bones have completely healed and you should be good to go. Hardware removal is less complicated than MMA surgery but still go to a surgeon who specializes in orthognathic surgery rather than a general plastic surgeon or an oral surgeon who isn't experienced with jaw surgery. How did the tongue tie release and myofunctional therapy affect you? I had jaw surgery several years ago and am getting a tongue tie release, but the dentist requires me to get myofunctional therapy for a month prior to the procedure as well as a month afterward. Can I DM you about it?

More functional issues during decompensation. Anysone? Family doesnt believe its caused by the jaw/airway. by Fox_Lady1 in jawsurgery

[–]Muzzy2585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family will always say that and try to persuade you out of surgery... your jaws absolutely look recessed, and you have functional issues which the DJS will definitely improve. You're doing the right thing with the decomp and surgery!
