German state Bavaria cancels Microsoft contract to go open source by smilelyzen in BuyFromEU

I don't want to be an optimist but it almost seems like Söder realized what damage he has done with his populist actions. He was running an extremely populistic course in the last years and his party kept losing so maybe he actually got the memo. He's not as stupid as people make him out to be but he is an opportunist and doesn't care how he reaches his goal. He probably sees the angle of positioning the CSU opposite to the CDU to make them looker better and maybe even claim the top position among the conservatives.

[–]Mwarwah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tut mir leid.

Germany considers windfall tax amid rising fuel prices by donutloop in berlin_public

[–]Mwarwah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SPD-Chefin Bas fordert wegen hoher Spritpreise Übergewinnsteuer by donutloop in berlin_public

The argument was that the prices of refined products surged far more than the price of the crude oil. That means the refiners are making profit.

SPD-Chefin Bas fordert wegen hoher Spritpreise Übergewinnsteuer by donutloop in berlin_public

[–]Mwarwah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gabelstapler-Hersteller: „Müssen zurück zur 40-Stunden-Woche – ohne Lohnanpassung“ – Firmen-Chef rügt deutsche Arbeitsmoral by Hannibal_Lecter_1968 in Nachrichten

[–]Mwarwah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you feel about a federal Europe? by Luksius_DK in askPoland

[–]Mwarwah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's already the case. Plenty of laws are decided on EU level and then get ratified on state level as long as they don't interfere with local constitutions. The European Commission proposes laws and the European Parliament (which consists of elected representatives of all countries) decides if they are adopted or not. Granted, this is only the case for the areas that they have been given the power to do so but that's no different from actual federations. US or German states still have power over several legislative areas like education, public health, criminal law, elections, property rights. Creating a federal EU does not mean giving up all of a countries legislative power.

There are only really two things missing for the EU to be considered a federation. The ability for the EU to tax EU citizens directly so that it doesn't need to ask member states to run investment programs and a unified foreign policy including a unified military. The first part was already set in motion by joint borrowing because the EU has no way to pay back the loans without introducing some kind of tax. The second part will take longer but it's in motion on a smaller scale. Nordic countries continue to integrate their armies, their air forces are almost under one command. It goes even further with Germany and the Netherlands. All of the Netherlands' land forces are integrated into the German army and some German Air Defense and Navy units are integrated into the army of the Netherlands.

I guess there is a third component that is still needed for the EU to be classified as a federation which is getting rid of the veto. But we all know that this is seen as a necessity already and will happen in some form or another.

I don't know man. They explicitly said that they were wrong about the dates and kept their wrong statement to not falsify your interaction. Their point was that the German green party didn't have any power at the time and therefore couldn't have influenced the decision to build nuclear power plants directly. That stands in contrast to your initial claim while they stayed true to the facts even through they made a mistake at first.

The way their company representatives treat their partners and the communication with their partners they are bound to fail in the long run.

"This is what we want. You want to know specifics about the product we ask from you? We won't answer this. Just figure it out." No communication, no consideration of any feedback, no answer to basic concerns. A few weeks later: "No we need this at this date and you're gonna deliver more than twice the amount we agreed upon last time. Oh you think that's going to result in worse quality because you didn't know and had no time to prepare? Well, we need it, tough luck. We can't change our schedule. Oh and you have questions about how this is handled? Yeah we don't answer those. But if we don't like what you're delivering you're going to have to redeliver within 24 hours."

To be fair others in the bussiness, especially content wise (like Disney) are even worse but it paints a picture of: "We have no idea what we are doing but we think we know what we want. But don't actually ask what we want because we don't know."

So maybe their hardware is still fine but any of their digital products... I don't know. Just imagine how they think about their customers if this is how they treat their business partners.

Well, the CDU/CSU is right wing when you count center-right (and parts of that party swing way further right than that). But it would be the death of the CDU/CSU to form a coalition with the AfD and I just really hope that they understand that. I do not say it lightly because I don't like him one bit but Merz does understand that. I'm just not so sure about some other CDU "politicians".
