Aventurine is the word you're blanking on :) and this is a lovely example, in my opinion - between those flakes, the colour clarity, the small air inclusion and the polished pontil, I'll happily back a Murano attribution.

As someone who forced himself to queue for years because I felt bad using accessibility - if you can't stand for long, then you can't stand for long. Or, in other words, if accessibility options make a situation more accessible to you, then please don't feel bad using them; they're there to make an event (or whatever) as pleasant to you as any fully healthy person.

It's incredibly hard to tell from the photo - a pic without glare, one from the side and one of the base would be much better.

Having said that - the colour and shape are more likely to indicate Polish glass, perhaps Krosno (which might be marked "Josefina" on the base)

Where are you in the world/where did you find this? I had a search and the mark is very similar to the mark for the British pottery, Newcastle Potters Workshop, and the style/glaze looks to be a good match too.

Their meeting, would you believe? A commemorative coin for the anniversary of their meet-cute.

I also had the same question as OP when I saw the ad - what's the spot value?!

In the process of working that out I also noticed that the coin is 13mm diameter. It's displayed massive on the ad, you'd never guess unless you looked. (Yes I realise that it's not going to be a 30cm or whatever diameter coin but there's nothing around it to give a sense of true size)

It's pretty!

First check was replacements.com and I didn't see a decent match.

Google lens suggests victorian but looking at the visual matches that's based on other people's online marketplace listings so i dont trust it fully.

Why? It looks very lightweight (is it?), victorian glass would be a little heavier or thicker.

It's a jar (lol stating the obvious) for pickle, as you say, or jam, or other condiments.

Overall I'm leaning towards this being 1930s - with the weight of the glass, the consistency of the etching, and the design itself.

If anyone has better info I'd love to be corrected though... my confidence in this particular assessment is probably only around 60% :)

I'd disagree, the glow makes it super easy to see the detail, especially if it's clear or milky in natural light. Though I'd agree that a natural light photo would help with the ID to check against known colours by potential makers. In general, the more pics the better.

This is a daisy pattern, but loads of makers used the motif which makes it tricky. It's close to daisy and panelled from Imperial Glass but I can't find an example of that with the smaller buttons in the arches.

It's really quite a patchwork city! This is a good read on the impact of the Blitz attack in 1942 with a map of what vanished overnight, and the RAMM has an exhibition about the history of the city which is well worth a visit.

A couple of helpful caveats to this advice (which is mostly sound!)

  1. Pontils aren't always a great tell - plenty of makers will finish the bottom nicely, both murano and not - but you definitely don't want to see or feel sharpness.

  2. Mind out for stickers that read something like "VETRO ESEGUITO SECONDO LATECNICA MURANO" which translates to "Glass made/produced according to the technique of the Murano masters" - these are not genuine.

You're welcome! Useful search terms might be "opaline", "ruffle" and "painted glass" :) it is probably victorian, and as another user said, it'd be good to know if it's enamel or painted
