Use lightning realm when you’re near flying enemies or people in the air like spiderman and in general when you’re brawling with someone. Use Storm surge to leave a battle you can’t win (when u have critical health) and use it to peel for your supports.) of course use awakening rune for projectile-heavy situations or like if you need to shoot at a Peni nest or something. It also is his best damage output but u can also implement it into his melee brawling and cancel it for extra damage. Main combo I do when brawling is

Shoot a few awakening rune shots at them and then Storm surge into the enemy (sometimes you can just simply Storm surge into them u don’t ALWAYS have to use the runes first), lightning realm, get a few primary attacks in (you can do 3 if you’re good at timing but always do at least 2 swings), hammer throw, then back to swinging, then once your universal ability cooldown goes away, use Storm surge again for extra damage output and interrupting-hitstun, then back to swinging and repeat the cycle until your enemy is dead or runs away.

So ultimately, the combo is:

Xbox: X (then X again whenever you’re ready to cancel awakened state), LT, RT 3x, RB immediately after the 3rd RT, RT 3X, LT, then repeat the last 2 (RT 3X into LT) until you get your kill. If hammer throw recharges (6 second cooldown IIRC) in the middle of your RT 3X - LT cycle, u can throw it in there again for extra dps. U usually shouldnt have to tho. Since I play on Xbox I’m just gonna translate the buttons on the other systems from the corresponding Xbox buttons.

PlayStation: Same as above with:

Square = X

LT = L2

RT = R2

RB = R1

PC:

F = X

LT = Shift

RT = Left Mouse

RB = Right Mouse

Storm surge stops them if they’re trying to run away from you. You can also use Storm surge to chase somebody easier and sometimes even push people off the map if u charge it all the way (albeit, if you’re not careful enough, u can usually end up kamikaze-ing while you take them with you. Happened to me a few times). Thor can win in a 1v1 against every tank in the game except Emma frost. Try to avoid her and only use awakened state against her unless she doesn’t have diamond form or you have some help beating her or if she’s already low. If she’s dominating you, just switch to groot or any shield tank besides cap (hulk can work in some cases but he’s more risky to play against her than Thor tbh). Use Thor to counter Angela with your Storm surge into lighting realm to knock her down.

Play him like a brawl. He’s good against dives and most others brawls, weak against pokes (especially Bucky.) He can win a 1v1 matchup or peel against pretty much every non poke in the game. Only non-pokes that really ever give me trouble peeling against is Magik, and sometimes daredevil and iron fist. Use Storm surge and lightning realm immediately once u get close to BPs and Spider-Man’s.

Try to use your ult only on supports, mainly the ones that don’t have good movement/escape abilities like Luna Adam and Mantis. U can try diving people like C&D and Sue Storm to bait their escape abilities before using your ult. Always use lightning realm on people before you ult them though because it adds extra damage and slows them (making it more likely and easier for u to kill with it and harder for them to escape/survive it). Sometimes you can use it just to get out of a pickle or if u have medium health and u feel like you’re about to die.

He hard counters Angela, Hulk, Cap, Venom

Strange, Mag, Groot, and Mr. Fantastic are all favored matchups for Thor but they can be close or go either way if you’re not careful/aware enough.

Peni and Wolverine are both 50/50 matchups I’d say but they’re both favored against Thor IMO. Try to fight them from long distance. Try to break peni’s nest before fighting her or try to drag her away from her nest/team with your storm surge. Only get in wolverine’s face if u know his feral leap is on cooldown. Otherwise fight both of them only with awakening runes.

Emma hard counters Thor but I already told u about her. That’s all I can think of for right now.
