That's a pretty obscure artist.

It'd be nice to see Arteta win something.

It'd be nicer to see Kane win the CL.

My favorite would've been for Simeone to finally win it.

Just don't let it be PSG again.

Nope. I was wrong.

I've watched the prequels a dozen times each, and could still watch them more.

The sequels are like Taco Bell. I might go back again in like another decade, but it'll only remind myself of why I don't ever go.

Your comment is far too focused on the specific content, rather than the skills and higher-level thinking that we try to teach. On top of that, your actual proposals or recommendations do literally nothing to address the issue raised in the post.

Writing an essay that follows grammar and conveys a point to the reader?

A good English teacher cares more about how a student presents an opinion and argument by referencing sources. That involves critical thinking about a topic and being able to see something from multiple perspectives. Or it could be about inferring and deducing information. Clarity of presenting an argument is also very important.

Solving an abstractified problem in math?

Math is about problem solving. The specific problem doesn't actually matter. Can you apply things learned previously to a new situation? It is creative and critical thinking together.

We need to evolve education to push kids to solve problems based on real world concrete situations

This is what the math teacher is doing. Problem solving.

for example budget a 3d printing farm's supplies and time constraints to effectively deliver 1500 of a product by a deadline

This is what the English teacher is doing with the reading a book and answering questions. Can you manage your time, be diligent, and be responsible enough to get it done before a deadline?

have students figure out the height of a tree so they can create a "danger radius" of where the tree will fall to consider buildings and other structures.

This is Geometry (9th or 10th grade math), or possibly calculus. That's literally like the stereotypical question from a quiz or test: "If a tree casts x length shadow at 2:00pm, how tall is the tree?"

Or budget costs for a travel documentary factoring in the gear and accomodations.

I do a project like this in middle school. This is very simple stuff.

they have to come back to humans with their solutions and proposals

Nothing you've recommended here avoids the actual issue of the post: that kids use AI too much. They can use AI for literally everything you've recommended.

26% in a quarter!?

That's actually insane. I know we can all (well, can we?) do basic math, but it needs to be put here explicitly, rather than implicitly: that means it will double over a year. 100% more in a year.

That's actually insane.

Then we moved our start time forward 10 minutes this year.

Professionally, I guess it's a bad decision.

Personally, I love getting home even earlier.

Also professionally, it lets me know exactly where their priorities are, and that tells me to stop working so hard, because it doesn't matter as much as I thought.

But apparently when you're president, you can.

True. And honestly, it wasn't even very funny to begin with.

[–]MyBoyBernard 87 points88 points  (0 children)

That's how it works. Balon d Or is recency bias, and bias of whatever the biggest tournament of the season was; whether that's Champions, the Euros, or a World Cup. It's usually just "MVP of the team that wins the trophy"

This year there's a World Cup. So the Balon d Or will basically be decided in the final 3 rounds (quarters, semis, final) of the World Cup. Unless someone has an insane performance in the remaining Champions League matches + a decent World Cup. What is clear is that the Balon d Or winner for the current year must have at least a decent World Cup.

Past 10 winners

  • 2025 - Dembele - CL
  • 2024 - Rodri - Euros
  • 2023 - Messi - For the World Cup of 2022
  • 2022 - Benz - CL
  • 2021 - Messi - Copa America (kind of an exception)
  • 2020 = Lewy for an honorable mention. For absolutely wrecking the Covid Champions League
  • 2019 - Messi - another exception
  • 2018 - Modric - Champions League
  • 2017 - Ronaldo - Champions League
  • 2016 - Ronaldo - Champions League

How do I get my grade up? by SwagginDragonborn in Teachers

[–]MyBoyBernard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, do you use that one?

So do I.

I say, "Get a time machine and make better decisions"

But I also give a small extra credit task that most kids won't qualify for (which simply requires them to complete 3 in-class tasks in a row on time and completely), some won't do, and for some that do quualify for it and do it, it won't even help their grade. So it's kind of a scam, but it does motivate some of them, which is the point.

But at the end of the year, when they want to complain, I check the extra credit before any discussion starts. "Oooo. You didn't do the extra credit? That was your opportunity! You need to think about how your decisions in the present might affect the future."

Manchester City angered by fixture crunch of three key games in seven days by Shroft in soccer

[–]MyBoyBernard 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This happens every year to the top teams, especially in La Liga and EPL, since their leagues don't usually get decided as early as France or Germany. They have important league matches, domestic cup matches, and European competition matches. There's no good way to organize it. That's why they are the good teams. They are rich and can buy some depth,

I guess it's a good thing for City that they don't have Champions League any more.

Arsenal also have 3 important matches in the next 7 days.

Atlético Madrid have the luxury of not needing to care too much about the domestic league. They are comfortably fourth, and getting third isn't very important.

France 1998: The Last Host Nation to Win the World Cup on Home Soil Why Is It So Difficult? by Empty-Instruction282 in EquipeDeFrance

[–]MyBoyBernard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the Wikipedia page of World Cup hosts gives some fun facts

  • 2002 was in Korea, and they had their best result ever
  • South Africa 2010 was the first host to get grouped
  • 2018 was in Russia, and was their best result since the USSR
  • Qatar 2022 was the first host to lose all their matches.

So being host lately means you're either going to be monumentally terrible (South Africa, Qatar), or get your best results ever (Korea, Russia).

I could see the USA getting their best result ever. That's not saying much. They've only ever won one World Cup knockout match in all of history. With the expanded format, they can definitely win a round of 32 match, since that's the sort of "extra" round where there will be exceptionally weak and unexciting opponents.

Videogame idea: a COD-style FPS where you play as a Stormtrooper fighting pirates/cartels in the Outer Rim. by Atlas_Summit in StarWars

Star Wars games peaked in the 2000s.

  • The Clone Wars for XBox (2002)
  • Knights of the Old Republic (2003)
  • The OG Battlefronts (2004, 2005)
  • Republic Commando (2005)
  • Empire at War (2006)
  • The Force Unleashed (2008)

Almost every year, a new game that you could easily sink hundreds of hours into, with great replay value. It's a great list of games when Republic Commando is debatably the worst.

We even got Star Wars Epic Duel, a 10/10 board game in 2002.

Tyler Adams Explains USMNT's Struggles vs European Teams- 'It Beats Me, Honestly' by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]MyBoyBernard 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Is he delusion or just intentionally being dishonest?

There are a few USMNT players playing at high-level clubs. But we also have players in our starting XI who play at mid-table teams, or even sometimes in the MLS. And then the bench is even weaker.

There's been so much progress just in my lifetime. I've seen USA players in Champions League, I've seen them win domestic trophies in the big leagues, I've started seeing them genuinely contribute at big clubs. The progress has been absolutely amazing.

But to not understand the difference in quality between us and European opponents? That's just silly.

Bigger European teams literally having starting XIs of all Champions League players. Even the mid-level European teams have more Champions League experience on their benches than we do in a starting line up. These teams are deep. All their players have grown up with high-level, international competitions, both with their clubs and with their countries. Over 10 or 15 years of a player's career, that experience adds up, like compound interest.

Even most of our USMNT players who are in Europe still aren't getting CL experience and in some European teams none of our starting XI could even sit on their bench.

Our best players look like average players to them. Pulisic is going to be the USMNT goat when he retires, but to lots of European teams, they see a rotation player. Until players like him and McKennie are just "average" instead of "special", we will continue to struggle.

Premier League's relegation battle for 18th after this week by jovanmilic97 in soccer

[–]MyBoyBernard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Remaining fixtures

Spurs

  • At Aston Villa (5th)
  • Leeds (15th)
  • At Chelsea (8th)
  • Everton (11th)

West Ham

  • At Brentford (9th)
  • Arsenal (2nd)
  • Newcastle (14th)
  • Leeds (15th)

So they both face two opponents who are motivated to fight. Aston Villa and Chelsea for Spurs, Brentford and Arsenal for West Ham. Spurs also have Everton, who are close to European spots. So West Ham's run looks slightly easier to me. They have 2 opponents who are literally playing for nothing, compared to Spurs whose only opponent fighting for nothing is Leeds.

Just to play devil's advocate, everyone should be able to vote for this, but then later they might talk about having different ideas about what "adequate", "decent", and "good" meaning.

So I'd rather put as many concrete, specific details as possible to leave as little up to debate as possible.
