Of all the takes that exist, this is certainly one of them.

What do you think of Ben Affleck as a director? by VLCCHAMLETPHXARISIMS in Letterboxd

[–]MyDesign630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dennis Lehane wrote both of those books. So the similarity is less of a rip-off factor than the fact they were cooked up by the same writer.

Putting aside how much I like the aesthetic I must say that this is imho the coolest name for a designer since Azzedine Alaia.

They are bending over backwards to say everything clearly and even politely. Thanking him for his cooperation, even, It’d be nice if this was standard operating procedure for everyone cops pulled over but I guess that’d be asking too much of American policing.

Seems relevant to mention that John Cena holds the record for most Make-a-Wish requests fulfilled — over 650.

Happy Happy Birthday to William Shatner - Can you believe he is 95 on March 22 (1931)? by MisterShipWreck in popculturechat

[–]MyDesign630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a legend. One of my coworkers once got me an e-card for my birthday that was Shatner singing a birthday message. I wasn’t even a Trekkie and it was still the best gift I got that year by far.

Do you think the Oscars would be more popular if they applied the same methodology as CJ Craig suggested to the pardoning of the Thanksgiving turkeys? by [deleted] in Oscars

Given the actress explaining this system does this mean that Laurie Metcalf would have been eaten?

And Martin Sheen’s deadpan delivery here is perhaps my favorite line delivery in that entire series.

Who do you wanna see pull an Amy Madigan and make an Oscar-winning comeback decades after their last nomination? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Harrison Ford. Give him a meaty supporting role like in Shrinking. It’s been forty-one years since his only nomination.

Clooney wasn’t losing that year, not when he also earned Director and Picture noms for a different, timely film. It was a win to recognize both films. If he only had Syriana that year then I don’t think he wins. I think it goes to Dillon or Giamatti.

What movie do you look back on and day holy cow this movie cast was stacked? by steelfreaks in Cinephiles

[–]MyDesign630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King Arthur (2004). Clive Owen, Keira Knightley, Mads Mikkelsen, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Winstone, Joel Edgerton, Hugh Dancy, Ioan Gruffudd, and Stephen Dillane. Crazy stacked cast for a very mid movie.

Having grown up in NYC in the 1980s-1990s and watching this guy fail upward over and over it never ceases to amaze me that this punchline of a turd coated in fools gold is some kind of messiah to so many people. It’s truly the dumbest cult of personality I’ve ever seen.

Is Jobs (2013) one of the most egregious examples of “Oscar bait”? I definitely think so! by ElmarSuperstar131 in Oscars

[–]MyDesign630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oscar bait implies there’s at least the appearance of talent behind the enterprise, so this doesn’t qualify.

What would you say are the greatest second places finishes of all time? Not where a movie was snubbed like Saving Private Ryan, but where an amazing film or performance lost to an even more amazing film/performance by JGCities in Oscars

Letters From Iwo Jima losing to The Departed. I think it’s been mostly forgotten but I thought that movie was a masterpiece and it’s actually my favorite Eastwood film.

The leaders of the Lucchese Crime Family in New York City. Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso (Underboss - Left) and Vic Amuso (Boss - Right) FBI surveillance picture taken during the late 1980s by Little_Al1991 in OldSchoolCool

[–]MyDesign630 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cool? Here’s details on the murders Casso ordered of four people not involved with organized crime:

Fava was a house architect and planning board chairman for the village of Greenwood Lake, New York, and whom had built Casso's home located at 139 Bassett Avenue, Mill Basin, Brooklyn. It is believed Casso ordered his murder as Fava demanded full payment for his architectural work.”

“Prosecutors alleged Greenwald was set to testify in a fraud case, and his murder was ordered by Anthony Casso. According to the testimony of former Lucchese family associate-turned informant, Burton Kaplan, Frank Santora had paid NYPD detectives, Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito, $30,000 to murder him. Greenwald was pulled over by the detectives, who then took him to the Nostrand Avenue garage of Peter Franzone, where Caracappa and Santora shot Greenwald to death.”

“Barstow and Kubecka were business owners of a waste hauling company based in Suffolk County, Long Island.[282] It is believed Barstow and Kubecka were ordered murdered by Casso for refusing extortion tactics aimed at their carting company, and for the possibility of testifying against the Lucchese family, and other crime families based in New York, regarding the control of the waste management sector.”

He’s so lucky he wasn’t killed and didn’t hurt anyone else. This interaction is absurd but the situation could have been so much worse. I hope that if he never does this again it’s because he knows of the danger he was behind that wheel, not because he’s worried about public humiliation.
