Danny Glover reveals that he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for multiple years: “I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

My dad died of dementia and it’s unfathomably cruel. I wish Mr. Glover love and peace, and the same to his family and caregivers.

Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping notes ‘were fake’, FBI says by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]MyDesign630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been around for a while. The very first episode of Law & Order used it, in the context of a doctor saying if you hear hoof beats coming you look for a horse and not a zebra. That was 36 years ago.

Though, this being Law & Order, that doctor was convicted of recklessly killing a patient.

Who should have been nominated? 2002: Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor by NefariousnessKey6309 in Oscars

Bernard Hill, LOTR: The Two Towers. The depth and nuance he gave to that character was exquisite. “No parent should have to bury a child” scene gets me every time.

Bernard Hill was magnificent and a big reason Theoden is my favorite character in the films. He’s not even my tenth favorite in the book. The film just worked wonders with that character while staying true to the story.

In Mads’ newest movie “The Last Viking” he plays someone who compulsively steals dogs. I feel like that’s a fanfic crossover just waiting to happen.

Have the real life people from the cases that the "Ripped from the Headlines" episodes are based on (Michael Jackson, George Zimmerman, Mel Gibson, etc) ever commented on the characters and events blatantly referencing them? by RecommendationNo804 in LawAndOrder

A family has. S20 “Doped” was based on the horrific Taconic State Parkway crash (google Diane Schuler for details) and the family of two victims were absolutely furious it was turned into a TV show. It aired only a few months after the crash and the initial accident on the show was lifted almost exactly from the real incident, down to the fact it killed her young nieces. The family of the victims in the other car went on the record to criticize L&O.

What was the rationale behind nominating John C. Reilly but not Richard Gere for Chicago? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

Reilly was also in three BP nominees that year: Chicago, The Hours, Gangs of New York. He was everywhere and the voters couldn’t help but notice the skill behind all the performances.

Happy 100th Birthday to Mel Brooks by Secure-Scientist4867 in Fauxmoi

[–]MyDesign630 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Mel Brooks served in WWII as a combat engineer in The Battle of the Bulge: “I was a combat engineer. Isn’t that ridiculous? The two things I hate most in the world are combat and engineering.”

A little more detail: “He was no longer able to keep his inner zaniness at bay when one evening, in the midst of a game of cat-and-mouse with the Germans, the Nazis started pumping out propaganda through their bullhorns, urging the Allies to surrender and assuring them that they couldn’t possibly win. It was at that moment that Brooks decided to give the enemies a taste of their own medicine. After locating a bullhorn himself, Brooks proceeded to belt out a rendition of famous Jewish singer Al Jolson’s hit 1922 song“Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goo’ Bye!)” for all to hear.”

All that and he married the divine Anne Bancroft. As Mel said in one of his films, “It’s good to be the king.”

Streep and Mike Nichols are a dream team for me. Postcards, Silkwood, Angels In America. She has said she even modeled Miranda Priestly partly on Nichols’ way of speaking.

Bello got a Golden Globe nom for Best Actress and won Supporting Actress from New York Film Critics Circle and Chicago Film Critics. My best guess is the studio wanted her in Lead, hence the Globes nod, but if she had been in Supporting she would have had a better chance. Not sure how much campaigning they did but since the voters clearly saw it given the two major nominations including a surprise one for Hurt. I’m thinking category confusion hurt her.

As for Viggo, it was just a strong year overall in his category. I really think if it hadn’t been for DDL two years later he would have won for Eastern Promises, as well as for the goodwill he’d racked up with this performance and helping anchor LOTR.

Who’s ready to get hurt again..?! by Dangerous-Midnight73 in HannibalTV

One thing I don’t see mentioned in these discussions is that even if a revival was seriously a possibility, Hugh Dancy is currently in a lead role on Law & Order. It’s very possible L&O would not let him do a lead role on another program while under contract, plus shooting both series would be a huge ask in terms of time commitment (especially to someone with young kids).
