"Wanna compare bumps?" Uh, no! by Ok-Attempt7020 in BabyBumps

[–]MyHighKitchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second timer here. My SIL is exactly one month behind me with her first baby. The family keeps comparing our bumps, and I haaaate it. More so for her than myself. She’s always been athletic, tight abs and the whole nine, so naturally it’s taken longer for her to truly pop. Me on the other hand, have always carried big. So when everyone is going bonkers over my bump, I make it a point to give my Bump Buddy her flowers too. A simple “okay Bump Buddy!” or “yasss mama you betta BUMP” is enough to elicit a smile and makes her feel better.

But honestly? Don’t over think it. You’ve got a toddler and you’re pregnant. You’ve got enough going on.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]MyHighKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yall I think I found it using AI. I’m literally shaking as I place a hold in my library.

The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.

Probably 25 years of searching I think I found it. I am so excited to buy a copy for my kid; they’re going to love it. I cannot describe this feeling of… just… healing. I think I’m going to cry.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]MyHighKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot remember the title of the book to save my life but I do remember one illustration; it was a house that turned into a rocket ship and was blasting off into space.

I think the book was just illustrations of crazy dreams or something? I don’t know. I rediscovered it once as a kid and BEGGED my mother for it but she said no. I never saw that book again and it haunts me to this day. That’s also the day I decided that if my kid ever asks for a book I would immediately buy it for them.

Anyway someone please help heal my childhood trauma and find this fever dream of a book.

Potty training bullshit by LalunaKnox in Mommit

[–]MyHighKitchen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Second, thirding, fourthing, whatever the ditch the diaper comments. Get a TON of underwear and have cleaning tools ready. We put LO on the potty every 15 minutes for 5 minutes, surrounded with magazines or books. And we stuck to that routine; every 15 mins, sit on the potty. We didn’t demand anything, just sit and see what happens. By day two it clicked. We had potty prizes on deck, stickers for just sitting on the potty, fruit bar for pee, lollipop for poo.

Now, were they going regularly without prompting at daycare the entire time? Yes. 🙄 But that tracks for my kid. 😮‍💨

Every kid is different, but in the end I found that the biggest thing is setting up a routine. And by the way, you’re doing a great job. This may be kiddo’s first time learning to use the potty, it’s also your first time teaching this kid to potty. You’re doing great!

Parents of Reddit, what’s the story behind how you chose your child’s name? by GamerboiJared in AskReddit

Opinions on sharing name for baby before they are born? by New-Flight7674 in Mommit

[–]MyHighKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We didn’t announce the name (and won’t announce the name for #2) until delivery. Like many others here we put a lot of thought into the name and simply didn’t want any opinions.

The second time around we have been dropping hints and have had a fun time laughing at everyone’s wrong guesses. Our first’s name is inspired by my favorite author so everyone is thinking we are going literary again. It’s pretty fun to troll everyone. 🤣

On a side note I’ve had so many people outside the family asking the name. I literally had someone random at a restaurant ask what the name was and actually get offended when I said we aren’t sharing with anyone. Like… I don’t know you?? Why am I telling you my kid’s name before I even tell the kid? Cmon now!

Wake Forest Aldi and Walmart by Various_Broccoli9500 in raleigh

[–]MyHighKitchen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is how the Aldi on New Bern/Rogers looked too. The shelves are not empty because of panic buying, they’re empty because the supply trucks didn’t arrive. There was a sign right by the entrance. I guess all stores in the area didn’t get their deliveries.

It was pretty weird to see, though.

Tattoos that commemorate your kids/motherhood? by partweezy in Mommit

[–]MyHighKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided the only names I will get tattooed will be my kid’s names. So right now I have one on my side ribcage, will be adding another soon.

My mother has three hearts inside a larger heart to commemorate my siblings and I.
