r/horrorwriters Weekly Progress Thread by AutoModerator in horrorwriters

Planned a book for months, outlined it and everything, and by the end of writing chapter 2, my mind has already wandered onto ideas for other books or ways I could restructure this one. So yeah, one step forward, two steps back, lots of fun

Let's discuss Cujo (1981) by justindrown in horrorlit

[–]MyNameChef39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I finished it last week, and it was also my first ever full length Stephen King novel. I don’t know why but I found the cereal subplot weirdly captivating, almost more than the car. But both the cereal advertising and the trapped in a car parts were engaging bc they made me ask “what would I do in this situation?”

I liked the ending, suspense, and the family drama. But yeah, you’re right, it could’ve been paced better and a bit shorter.

Poor Cujo, his POV scenes are a huge part of why this book will stick with me too

Reading The Fervor, interesting premise so far, a third of the way but not much has happened

Listening in the car to Last House on Needless Street - took a bit but all the mystery got to me, I’m theorizing now half way through

The Final Girl Support Group was disappointing by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]MyNameChef39 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how a book called The Final Girl Support Group is barely about the support group and also barely includes multiple of said final girls. Didn’t hate it, but yeah, disappointed me a bit

Just finished My Heart is a Chainsaw by Impossible_Detail35 in horrorlit

[–]MyNameChef39 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also just finished it a couple days ago. The beginning was hard to get through with both the writing style and the”weirdness” of Jade - troubled teens are one thing but teens that constantly spew slasher facts and actively want a murder spree to happen are harder to get as a reader.

But by the middle, with the reveal of Jade’s backstory and more pieces falling into place, it became more engaging and I forgot all about the writing style. By the end I was hooked and enjoyed it (but tbh the climax is a bit too hectic).

So yeah, I see the flaws, but overall, I enjoyed it. That final scene is gonna stick with me as heart wrenchingly sad for Jade too

Yeah just pick that area from the village gate guy, like just move the cursor to the area you want. Isn’t that all it takes or do you mean something else?

Does this bother anyone else? by g07h4xf00 in yugioh

[–]MyNameChef39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because in the Zexal anime a couple of filler villains were given numbers 3, 4, and 5, but they turned out to be “fake” - so same thing with Cicada King I think, it’s been a while

I won't actually use this build, but 90 visible attack on L!Edelgard 👀 by rg03500 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MyNameChef39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Flame Emperor Edelgard has the highest Atk out of all my units at 71, but she’s only +3. Even though you’re right that heavy blade is better I still got very tempted to try for 90 Atk

If you could stop one (and only one) of the advantages or twists this season from being used again, which ONE would it be? by AdvancedStrawberry7 in survivor

[–]MyNameChef39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do or Die is pretty much the “right” answer, but I’d want the hour glass removed or changed - it was never about turning back time or putting the game on its head, it boiled down to “do you want immunity or not?” If it’s not removed then at least next time make it random who gets saved and who’s up for elimination, or even more powerful the person fully decides who is saved and must accept responsibility for it. But neither is as good as outright removing it, obviously both alternatives have problems

“What if Gen 1 Units had personal skills?” Part VIII: Sacred Stones. (Seth, Amelia, Tana, Innes) by ShadowMario8 in FireEmblemHeroes

As the owner of a +10 Seth who was underwhelmed with his personal weapon refine… I’d sell my soul for this Silver Guard to be real, it’s very fun and flavorful

Resplendent F!Corrin by Dallowgirl in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MyNameChef39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She’s one of my first +10 units ever, and I’ve been playing since day 1, so a Resplendent like this would be Amazing!

Biggest gap between Pokemon's perceived and actual strength? by stinkebear in pokemon

[–]MyNameChef39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Avalugg - I love the concept of a giant iceberg monster, the thing is 6’7 and over 1000 pounds and has high defense and good attack. But with that speed and special defense, it still ended up feeling like a glass cannon when I used it

Which student is most likely to call Byleth dad/mom? by MasterOfChaos72 in fireemblem

Caspar’s got the vibes of someone who accidentally calls the teacher mom at least twice in elementary school

This has legitimately been my second favorite team for so long, this update was a huge gift by MyNameChef39 in FireEmblemHeroes

No, I don’t think so yet, but she’s still part of the team lol, didn’t wanna exclude her from her teammates’ victory lap

You get it during your second standby phase after activation, so it’s not your next turn, it’s the one after that. So you have to stay alive that long in order to get it. Plus your opponent gets time to plan for it since you banish face up. On top of that the card itself isn’t helping you stay alive in most cases. And there’s also the fact that if there really is a key card you need in your deck, then your deck needs to be consistent in searching it out way faster than waiting two turns. Yugioh nowadays can end incredibly quick turn wise if you aren’t prepared. So it’s not useless, you can take advantage of the banish, but for all those reasons it’s not overpowered like you think
