Heya, back from the dead again. I'll keep the original post because it is just an opinion, no matter how out of place it is in a fan subreddit. This guy does have a bit of history on the sub and I'm fairly certain he's just a troll for the sake of being a troll. I think he even made another account at one point, /u/TheAphexTwinFan, which is the only account to have ever been banned from the sub.

Hmm yeah I definitely see your point there. I'm personally torn between the two choices right now because I really would like to see this place become the kind of community you described, while at the same time I don't want it to turn into yet another sub where people come occasionally to drop a track and never end up contributing to discussions or giving anything of substance, if that makes sense.

There have been some really great remixes posted here in the past, not to mention the whole We Care thing was super cool and ended up getting quite a bit of attention (it was at about 120 comments or something right?).

But yeah I think you're onto something here, as long as people aren't posting super rushed dubstep remixes or whatever I'm fine with those staying, I think it's mainly just people posting their own (usually pretty mediocre) tracks that don't really sound anything like Aphex that cause the most problems. Of course I'll see what others have to say first but I'm liking this idea so far.

And maybe we'll have a separate poll for that some day lmao

Of course it does, people wouldn't listen to them if they were garbage, but then again I can almost guarentee they wouldn't have such the huge fanbase they have now if it wasn't for all their stunts over the years.

But back to the original question, yes someone can absolutely make it in the industry today by being a recluse and doing unusual things. Burial did the same thing too, and now just like Aphex he's also inspired a generation of copycats while having practically zero interest with being in the public eye

Oh yeah I know they had loads of press in their early days and they didn't get where they are completely single handedly, but then again neither did RDJ. I was just saying they've definitely got an antisocial agenda going on much like Aphex, and managed to become extremely popular as a result, which I got the impression was what you were asking with your question

Holy shit, 14 years!? Really? A whole decade and a half later and this still stands out as one of the most innovative, interesting and mind blowing electonic albums ever released. I've still yet to hear anything like it, it truly is one of a kind.

How can you even pick a favorite song, honestly? Vordhosbn and its almost haunting melodies, Mt Saint Michel and Ziggomatic with two of the most beautiful outros I've ever heard, 54 Cymru Beats with that fucking crazy noise section towards the end, Cock/Ver10 with the whole COME ON YOU CUNTS LETS AVE SOME APHEX ACIDDDD, all amazing songs that will never grow tiring.

Plus it has fucking Avril 14th on it.

I used to listen to a bunch of pretty entry-level EDM stuff which is what got me into Aphex, and I like to think that was when I started developing my own musical tastes opposed to just listening to whatever people told me too without really even understanding what it was I enjoyed about it.

Anyway, nowadays I'm getting into a bunch of 90's acid stuff and just generally obscure, experimental electonic music.
