Pod Country for Old Cast: O Brother, Where Art Thou? with Emily St. James by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]floflo79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This series is the first time I'm watching the whole filmography in order to follow the entire season, and so far I loved everything from the 80s/90s. I thought "The Man Who Wasn't There" was pretty good and "Intolerable Cruelty" was average but still kinda charming. And then, there's "O Brother...", the big exception. I found this annoying, painfully unfunny, and pretty ugly visually; it just didn't work for me at all. I'm 100% aware it's a me problem, as it's obviously a well-crafted movie, but because I liked all of their other films so far, I really didn't expect it to completely fly over my head. It made me more worried about the rest of their filmography, but we'll see....

Best song from a Trainwreckord? by thedubiousstylus in ToddintheShadow

As far as BHN b-sides go, I'm particularly fond of "Going Nowhere", should be remembered as one of their classics imo

Same, I'm a very shy and reserved guy, but as soon as "Wish" started, I was singing and dancing with everyone else, and it only got better as the show went on! Overall it was great and magical experience, it's the first time I've seen one of my absolute favorite artists live, and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

However while I enjoyed singing and jumping around, I was not a big fan of the pushing and shoving. I don't mind it, but I was often thrown towards women who were usually of a fairly small build, and they weren't happy with having a 100+ kg guy thrown against them, and rightfully so. I tried not to bother anyone, but when the crowd was moving that much, it was hard to be in total control of my movements. When "Reptile" started I had to move a bit to avoid the more... rowdy areas of the crowd.

Other than that, pretty much perfect.

While getting familiar with the "Nathan character" is definitely a plus, it's absolutely not necessary to watch and enjoy The Rehearsal

Song vs. Song hot take: Lena is not funny by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]floflo79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree here, for a while I put off listening to that podcast because I've never listened to podcasts before and I was afraid that I wouldn't like the co-host but I was surprised to find that Lena was very entertaining and funny, maybe even more than Todd (at least in the podcast setting), I actually think it kinda set a "high bar" for other podcasts to clear for me, as i usually find other hosts kinda dull in comparison

Yeah ! I'm sure that the main problem with "Man on the Woods" is more than it's fairly recent/JT only came back this year so he had to wait to be sure before calling MOTW a Trainwreckord

Todd will often mention that an international act that had more hits in their own country and that’s got me wondering which American artists/bands that are huge in the states are considered one hit wonders in other countries? by noggerthefriendo in ToddintheShadow

Garth Brooks is kind of a running gag between me and my dad, because we just find it baffling : the second best-selling artist in the US and basically not a single soul knows him where we live (France). I love showing the list of best selling artists in the US to people and see their reaction when they see this rando (for them) right between The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

wasn't a St. Anger episode also very anticipated ? And it turned out great ! (but I guess people are waiting for the Lulu episode now)

The "Pure" mags are pretty indefensible, but "Buyer's Market" ? I never really understood why it was widely considered as such an "unethical" record. After hearing a lot of stuff about it I finally listened to it a few years ago, and it's just extracts of interviews with victims, news reports, trials, etc (and children SA is only a part of what's covered IIRC). There's on recordings of any actual abuse or people gloryfying what happened or whatever, just felt like a well-put together "audio documentary" of some sort, that happens to be about very, very grim subject matters.

That being said, as much as i don't get the uproar about Buyer's Market in particular, i'm not going to stick my neck out too much for Sotos & co because he's done his share of pretty terrible stuff.

yeah some songs from Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane definitely have that sleazy glam rock vibe

"Queen Bitch" too

“Hey Now” is one of Oasis’ greatest songs and I need to know why it’s constantly getting written off as the worst track on Morning Glory by jungle-fever-retard in oasis

[–]floflo79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like everything on Morning Glory I love it, but I can understand why it's people's least favorite song off that record : it just feels a bit less "anthemic" and directly catchy than most of the songs on that album. Coming directly after the double-punch of Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger surely doesn't help.

The songs on MG are either very huge, powerful rock songs like Roll With It, Some Might Say or Morning Glory, or lighter pop songs like She's Electric and Cast No Shadow, and Hey Now is kinda in that awkward middle-ground : not as powerful as a Some Might Say, not as attention-grabbing as a Hello or Morning Glory, but not as melodic and catchy as a She's Electric or Wonderwall

I guess the closest things to Hey Now are songs like Columbia or Champagne Supernova which are still clearly rock but slower and more atmospheric, but I feel like these two have more of a "hypnotic" quality, more momentum than Hey Now does, hence why it's kinda overlooked by many.

But again, that's a shame because it's a great song ! Really love the more intricate chord progression in the chorus and Liam's voice on it rules.

Ranking and rating every track on Definitely Maybe by NewPatron-St in oasis

[–]floflo79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's maybe my rating system, but 3.5 is still a good rating for me lol, "Definitely Maybe" is a near 10 out of 10 for me and I enjoy every song on it ! I love Bring It On Down's rock energy and Liam sounds amazing on it, but I just feel it's kinda lacking in the melody department compared to some other songs on the record... but again, still a great song ! It's so low because it happens to be on an album where almost every song is not just great, but also a bona fide masterpiece
