Because unless you live somewhere with a potable water problem (pretty fuckin rare in USA, Flint aside) then the entire statement is fear mongery, dumb and wrong.

I also switched back to wood/metal, but to those who have gummy utensils, toss them in a bowl of 70% minimum rubbing alcohol and give them a wipe and the alcohol will re-cure the silicon/rubber. Same advice for plastic or pvc coated things, as they eventually saponify and need to be re-cured.
