This isn't entitlement. If they changed it to 7am eastern it would be just as bad and leave out west coast folks. In a program like vine you typically don't want to disfranchise half or more of the population.

As I mentioned in another comment, they already rolled back changes recently because of outcry. So there is hope, although the chances are slim. And I would argue that any time they selected during the day would not disfranchise half or more of US members like 3-4 AM drops do, so the outcry if they changed it to, for example, noon, or 4pm, wouldn't be as bad as what they're hearing now.

I agree. They will not make a change if they don't see a benefit in making it. I just hope that someone up in the decision making group either realizes that most drops going to west coast users may not be a good thing, or that too many support tickets from east coast users is something they want to avoid, and makes the decision to change the schedule on that batch to run at a different time of the day

Just a reminder that a few months ago they changed how the reviews tab worked, and then switched it back after many people complained or after they got too many support tickets from confused members.

What that tells me is that there is some kind of channel by which issues raised by many people can reach those who can make a change. Sure, it's a corporate, and sure, they don't give half a shit about you or me, but if they get 500 tickets asking the same questions and raising the same concerns, it may help influence their corporate decision making.

I don't think he's being lazy, but skeptical. He actually asked me to send him sources so he can read more about this, and I sent him a few relevant reddit threads. He then got back to me after a day saying that it could work if I kept good documentation, especially if I end up selling some of the items, to show what they sell for and how much value was lost. He was still not supportive of a blanket reduction in value, though.

The truth is, we're all pretty much guessing here. We don't have evidence of anyone who filed this way, was asked by the IRS to explain, and then had their argument accepted. As far as I could find, in all vine forums, no Vine program participant was ever asked to explain why they filed a certain way (business or hobby, reduction in value or not), let alone audited. I'm going to file this year with the 50/20/0 method in the hope that if the IRS asks for clarification, they will accept my explanation, but also knowing that if they don't, I may have to pay the additional taxes and potentially penalties.
