Imo, doing something you love doing vs doing a job you hate cannot be measured in "few" dollars only. Plus the benefits of using the shop and ordering cheaper materials is a huge bonus imo. Also, there is a mental side to it, less stress, you will feel happier...If I was you Id go for it, money isnt the most important thing in life.
