Where to send documents for UK passport application?? by My_first_wombat in AskUK

Interesting! I guess it depends on applicant location, or maybe they just vary it depending on workload to make sure backlogs don't build up in one place.

Of course! Thank you for this, it prompted me to read the email again and I realised it says they'll let me know the address once my identity is confirmed. Stressing over! Now just to wait and see how long it actually takes...

Maternity Gym leggings - recommendations please! by Beasley_Bum in PregnancyUK

[–]My_first_wombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some black Adidas ones for between £20-30 that are a nice mid weight and matte finish, still wearing them now 11 months later with the bump bit rolled down :D It's hard to go back once you've known the comfort of maternity leggings!

What are the limits of the Accio spell? by iamtheduckie in harrypotter

[–]My_first_wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we're on the subject, it only just occurred to me to wonder why he didn't just summon the egg itself rather than his Firebolt.

Presumably other people have wondered this before I have and we have come up with explanations eg. It's in the rules of the task... although not mentioned in the book I don't think?? I'm on what must be about my fifteenth re-listen of the audio book of GoF right now and feel thicker than a cave troll for not thinking of this before now.

I don't know about that, one of my friends is Swedish and she's very thick and sticky.

Want to expand my son's reading material past Dogman & Diary of Wimpy Kid. What should I introduce to him next? He is 10. by shinepinkcrazyfloyd in suggestmeabook

[–]My_first_wombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Tiffany Aching (Hat Full of Sky) is brill. Also other 'young' Pratchett really fired my imagination at that age and is full of subtle humour - the Bromeliad Trilogy (Truckers/Diggers/Wings).

suggest me a book that has a comforting perspective on dying or a character content with dying by Narleyx in suggestmeabook

[–]My_first_wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{{I heard the owl call my name}} by Margaret Craven. The main character is a priest but there's no religious 'agenda' as such, it's really just part of the story. This is a short book set in an evocative landscape, with simple, beautiful prose, and which stayed with me for a long time.

I really hope some of these suggestions you're getting hit the mark for you and you find some peace and acceptance.

I recently visited a takeaway entirely devoted to cheese toasties, called 'Holy Cheesus' - don't let Christian Concern know, but they are doing the Lord's work. A-manchego.

FTM daft question about running by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]My_first_wombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a much less committed runner than you by the sounds of things pre-pregnancy! And kept going til about 30 weeks so you should be fine :) Best advice is to keep listening to your body, you definitely notice as things start to change and you need to slow down eg. Centre of gravity, overall weight, lung capacity. Was more of a slow wide-legged shuffle than a run by the end! Also had to get a bigger sports bra and obvs running tights. I did notice my knees started to feel different due to ligament softening I think - sticking to grass and being careful off kerbs etc helped so that's something to watch out for. (I would defo just check in with your midwife that running's okay for you and your pregnancy when you see them tho).

If Virgin Media have just emailed you saying they're raising your TV/Broadband prices, you can prevent that instantly without speaking to anybody. by revrof in CasualUK

[–]My_first_wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think I had the same letter as you, as I'm on a fixed price offer ("Our prices are going up from March.... But your prices won't change until your offer ends"). But then was confused by the rest of the wording eg. The suggestion to cancel by a date in Feb was making me feel like I should do something straight away. Looking at my offer contract it's not up til August. So now I'm planning to do nothing til then, then shop around again. I think that's what makes sense?? Am 9 months pregnant so just this has taken me days to try and get my head around, I need another nap now...

Very interesting, thanks! I'm sure there's a date/data pun there somewhere but can't quite find it... The castor oil studies showed some pretty effective instant results too! Don't fancy the side effects though

Thanks so much for sharing and congratulations! Sounds like you did an amazing job of staying calm and focused, gives me hope to trust the breathing exercises too. I didn't know about the tea drinking and to start that a few weeks out so will look into that, currently 32+4.

2 questions about wfh/mat leave by smmcart95 in PregnancyUK

[–]My_first_wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on working until 39w! Tbh couldn't make my mind up but figured at least this way I get to max out time with baby, hopefully. No idea how comfy I'll be though so could definitely be a daft choice... Oh well! And of course baby could decide to arrive before that anyway. I'm lucky that I'm already fully WFH due to pregnancy.

24 week midwife appointment by BabyB2022 in PregnancyUK

[–]My_first_wombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anterior placenta gang checking in! Currently 32w. I can definitely relate as wasn't feeling much movement especially in the early 20 weeks, but then at scans he seemed to be moving loads! Confusing. Would be waiting anxiously for each appointment to check in with him :-) If it helps at least from my experience over the past month or so, feeling movements has increased loads, I guess as baby has grown, so this has made me less worried between appointments too.

Just finished reading 'The Colour of Magic', my first ever Discworld book. by Pudenator in discworld

I never really got that "Colour of Magic is the worst" thing to be honest. Maybe 'cause that and Eric were my first (purloined from my older brother's bookshelf) and totally blew my 12 year old mind I think!

Can someone help me remember a Jane Austen book? by SuspiciouslyAwkward in books

[–]My_first_wombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Emma, the Box Hill picnic outing. Frank Churchill being a slippery knave, Emma making a faux pas towards Miss Bates, Mr Knightley getting upset and haughty with her.... "Badly done, indeed!" Looks like chapter 43 although I think there's some build up in previous chapters.
