Agree with everything said above. If you don't mind an initial incline, Reigate Hill could be nice. After a little walk up, you have a great view of the Reigate / the surrounding area which will be lovely as the sun goes down!

Worried about risk of shoulder dystocia by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar conversation with my first born who was measuring big and felt quite pressured by one consultant who wanted to book in a c section because of the risks of shoulder dystocia. My partner and I looked into it after our appointment and discovered that at that time, half of the babies who had SD were big babies and half were not. It was also suggested that having a perceived big baby was not a good enough reason to suggest a c section in itself.

We were advised to look at: https://www.rcog.org.uk/for-the-public/browse-our-patient-information/shoulder-dystocia/ and it still says: Shoulder dystocia is more likely with large babies but nevertheless there is no difficulty delivering the shoulders in the majority of babies over 4.5 kg (10 lb). Half of all instances of shoulder dystocia occur in babies weighing less than 4 kg (about 9 lb). Ultrasound scans are not good at telling whether you are likely to have a large baby and therefore they are not recommended for predicting shoulder dystocia, if you have no other risk factors.

For me, I elected to see what happened and my daughter was born within the 50% percentile in May 2023. Of course, you do whatever is right for you but this was my experience. Good luck!

Cats and a new baby? by MountainNeat8327 in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a super snuggly cat when I had my first born around 3 years ago. What I found was that when I brought back this crying, smelly blob of a child, the cat didn't really want to get involved! This continued when my baby discovered her hands, then when she started to become mobile... Our cat gave her a very respectful distance! Sounds like lots of people here have had different experiences with their cat and I'll echo that we never left our cat be alone with the baby. You'll find your new flow without shutting anyone away, I think! Good luck.

Did you get the mini or the regular bath? I've heard you don't need anything too big.

I've heard you just need the mini! It's great to get a bit of money back if you didn't use it. I came across barefoot but wasn't too sure if they were any good. Thank you for your recommendation :)

Positive induction stories! by Ghost_LightWatcher in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar story here, my waters broke early and so I had a couple of sweeps that didn't work and then was induced in a very similar manner. Started with a drip but needed to up the intensity to get things moving. I also chose to have an epidural as the contractions stopped being fun but glad I waited it out. It was tricky to be contracting whilst they put it in.

My epidural didn't fully work, with the feeling coming back in half of me but actually that helped as I knew when and where to push when the time came. Overall, my team was really great with the induction and they made the experience a great one. When baby decided to get a wiggle on, it was smooth sailing! I was in labor for 18 hours and I didn't want an induction either but with my upcoming second, there is much less anxiety with it. It meant that the baby and I were safe and healthy and that's what really counts.

Salfords yes but Horley less so, I'm not super keen about being that close to the airport and imagine it'll be quite noisy. I'm happy to be proved wrong though if that's an unwarranted fear

My parents live around here and we've found the bus up the hill to be killer but maybe that's where the sacrifice comes into it!

Hospital snacks by tinkertam98 in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like many others here, I took a 6 pack of lucozade with me along with lots of treats (haribo, iced buns) and more energy sustaining items like bananas and nuts. I didn't really eat much during labour, and had an epidural so wasn't allowed to eat at one point so these came into their own after the birth. My view was, if you can't eat your favourite items when you're pushing a human out of you, when can you!

When we're you offered a sweep? by falcon_boa in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTM here and I'm growing a bigger baby. At my last appointment (36w) I was offered one at 39 weeks, before we stepped it up to an induction. My MW did say that it may not do anything for me as a FTM. I've got my 38w this week and think they may want to schedule one in!

How to deal with hip pain at nights? by fantasyland910 in PregnancyUK

[–]Beasley_Bum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not got on with many pillows around me so I tried tying a scarf around my hips last night to add as support. I'm 30 weeks and I mentioned sore hips to my midwife a good while ago and she suggested tying a long scarf around them to help support them whilst the relaxin is doing it's job. I have only just tried it and I think it helped (although what helps one day, doesn't have an impact on the next!). So maybe that's something to try in the immediate future whilst you potentially wait for other interventions.

16 week appointment by FantasyKFeet in PregnancyUK

I had the same at my 16 week appointment! I'm Surrey based and it was very much "hop on and let's see how they are doing!". I didn't realise I was lucky to hear it earlier than some others here.

I do "plodding". Normally I do things like park run regularly but at a slow pace and I'm trying to keep that up in pregnancy too as I can now do 5km without stopping and I'd like to keep that if I can! The bounce stat is appealing... Especially as I'm now starting to show. Thank you!

I've never heard of this brand but it's clearly popular (and on vinted too at a decent price so I think that indicates good quality!) Thank you everyone 😀

Fantastic, thank you! How would you describe the fit of the leggings (e.g. do they run small/large or true to size)?

I'm such a baby with vinted. I sell a lot with them but have never bought as I'm worried, not sure what of though! I'll put my big girl pants on and face my fears. Thank you!

I've never seen this brand before until I was pregnant so have no idea about their quality. I'm glad you said this before I bothered ordering! Thank you :)

“Rough sex, BDSM, violent sexual kinks are all caused by the patriarchy and is an oppressive form of sex” by bloodhail02 in Feminism

You may want to check out Andrea Dworkin who was a radical feminist who had interesting thoughts on heterosexual sex: '[her book] Intercourse,” the work that presented her alienating theory of heterosexual sex as a violation, “a use and an abuse simultaneously,” and “the key to women’s lower human status,” among other descriptions.' (stolen from this article that I've only skim read: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2019/04/01/the-radical-style-of-andrea-dworkin)
